Pro-tip: Starting a post that way comes off as rude.

You're free to believe that humans are guided in some way by the holy spirit...but that does not obligate me to believe the same. Catholics (for instance) believe the Holy Spirit influences the church, and the individuals must follow the church, as opposed to being directly influenced themselves.

In that scenario, it comes down to faith. "Which is it that you believe?"

No, I'm saying temptation comes in two forms...the obvious 'bad' temptation, such as tempting someone to commit murder...and the more subtle 'good' temptation, such as going to church and acting superior for doing so.

Sorry to say, but you've completely missed my point.

I'm saying it isn't a black and white issue, we can't just say demon = evil, angel = good. You're agreeing with me.

This again comes down to trust. How can I, a mere mortal, determine if someone is truly 'of God?' Heck, I can't even determine if I am truly 'of God.' I don't trust in my ability to judge fairly...that's why the bible has ordered us not to judge others. We're not supposed to test, or prod people...we're supposed to love them unconditionally...not simply 'those who are of God.'

This is to Mythril_Roxas I take it? Because I'm saying people aren't pure evil, since they have the capability to do good things too.

Didn't they teach you in church about Adam and Eve? Original sin? Good and evil is not a black and white issue...it used to be...but now we're not so enlightened (It's all in Genesis).

Life isn't about picking sides...it's about following a path (toward God), and potentially being knocked off of it (temptation). Deep inside we know the right direction...but problems arise and it isn't so clear how to walk that way.

I agree with you Mike. It is not a black and white issue.

??? Good temptation? Let me skip that part. Let me rephrase this so you can understand this better. Yes, the bible did say not to judge, but it also said for us to test others to see if they can be "trusted" or won't do cruel things to you. We still must have to love people unconditionally. I didn't say that we only have to love those who follow God now. When I meant "test" for your side since you don't trust people , I mean seeing if that person will be the person who you can count on most of the time & to see if that person can stick by you no matter what. This testing is mostly is to be used to see if their spirits is for God or for demons though, but let's skip that part about spirits of God & demons.

Yes, nothing is a black & white situation, but yet, we're still in a race. This is red, green, yellow, blue, white, gold, silver, everything now. We're in a race for our life. There are people who be wondering why they don't make it to heaven & that's because they either decided to be lukewarm (Neutral), they didn't obey to God's will, they did the two sins that they shouldn't have did, etc. Not only that, what about the contents of your heart? Do your heart knows that this is what you should or shouldn't have done?

Edit: Um... Darko. I don't know if just saying "I agree with this person." would get you a nega rep or infraction, so to make sure that you don't get in trouble, just say somehting about what you think about religion.

And these people have sat down next to you and told you they didn't make it into heaven? They wrapped their arm around you and said: "Brandon ... I didn't really sin in my life, but I still didn't make it to heaven. ... Why?"

I'm sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but when you make statements like that you'd best have proof. Unless spirits visit you or you've seen Hell like Dante Alighieri, don't say things like that because you don't know.

If you assume there are people who think that say that you assume. Not that there are. And my guess would be people know why their in Hell if they go. People have to be judged before they are sent, don't they? -Assuming we are judged.-

I think we deserve to be judged. We sin everyday and we try to make up for it. Yet still there are those who are sent to hell, those are the bad people.

I was surfing about and I came across this philosopher known as Voltaire. He's not a church man or anything, but I thought this quote was quite remarkable.

-.- I meant people who left this world Hare & not only that, they need to be in the book of life in order to enter & they do need to be judged anyways. :( Right now, I really don't want to talk some more about religion. My first day of my sophmore year ended real bad.

Yes, there is such a thing as having say, the devil 'appeal to our good nature.'

Like I said, there's the example of people going to church and assuming they'll go to heaven...this is infact a sin, that arises from a 'good' thing.

That's in direct contradiction to the parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector.

The only way this isn't a contradiction is if I take your words literally...

You must be saying "get an opinion of whether someone wants to do you harm." That's completely different from passing judgement on a person and concluding they are 'of God' or not.

See, when you say "you're trying to get an opinion of whether someone wants to do you harm" that again, has nothing to do with weighing a person's soul.

Every single person on earth may think someone like Hitler went to hell...but assuming Hitler went to hell, simply because we can conclude he did bad things, belittles God and His mercy.

Concluding someone is or is not of God is exactly the same as passing judgement. In my opinion, the Christian denominations that walk around saying "Oh we're not supposed to judge...but we can judge a little" are just spewing contradictions left and right.

Unfortunately SB, this part just looks like you're trying to throw too many metaphors into one idea...I can't discern any logical concept in it, which is what happens when you do that. Try to rewrite it, and just be direct about it.

    lets put it this way:

we are inclind to do good 40% of the time, and evil 60% of the time. Of course our free will over rules all statistic, and those numbers are being nice to your whole point Desert Warrior.

But the point is that we are sick in sin, and the cure is responsibility and wisdom.

That is true. That is the everlasting sickness, sin.

    yep.

But we must realize that we can not cure our neighbors sickness without curing our own.

Again true. To help others we must help ourselves first. In that way we know how to help them.

See I think this is true...but this doesn't mean we are 'purely evil' right?

This means we are more inclined to do wrong...and it takes effort to do good.

"The road to hell vs the road to hell" (you know, straight and wide, however that saying goes)

exactly Mike, you r right, it doesnt mean we r purely evil, it means we are iclined to do wrong.
    You worded it perfectly.

Do not bring that discussion up anymore AM. There's no point continuing making any notes to that.

And for the topic, I still stand for the fact that I don't believe in god or any stuff related to religion, in the point that I should believe. Continue the discussion.
