The New Dawn 5: Shadows Awaken

Rai felt odd asking him this question... but something inside her really wanted to know. "Forgive me if I'm touching a sore spot but I'm just curious. You say your friend died for this world... where exactly did that happen? I know it was on this world, but where?" this question came as random to her as she was sure it did to him.

Arlene saw who she was looking for a couple streets down and smirked. She looked at the rooftop under her feet, right here in this house was one of Saki's enemies that he wanted destroyed and also one that may possibly be the one that banished her and all other dark beings to death. She wondered why Saki had sent her to stop the new member from killing them both. She shrugged "Well who am I to argue with the fearless leader." she said carelessly before she dissapeared from off of the roof. She teleported to a street only a few yards away from where the mysterious man stood leaning against the wall, seemingly carelessly examining her manicure *fingernails* but in reality she was very aware of her surroundings. As the mysterious man got close enough that he could hear her she spoke to him without really looking at him "You're pretty eager to get your missions done for a newbie." she said sarcasticly.

 

Rai frowned, confused "You didn't want to be with her in her last moment? Didn't you support her desison?" she shook her head, why was she getting so difensive about this? She shook her head, getting confused. "Nevermind... I'm sorry." she said walking toward the door. She didn't even seem to care that a complete stranger was left in her home. She just wanted to get away, she wanted to be alone. She needed to think. She took off running down the street. She almost ran into a man talking to a woman but avoided the situation before it could have happened. After mumbeling a quick appology to him she was off again, dissapearing into the night.

 

Rai just kept running, not sure where she was going anymore. She knew the City of Dawn like the back of her hand but she didn't care about knowing wich directions she turned at street corners or signs when she passed them. Eventually she had made a maze out of her own hometown but eventually, her human limitations stopped her from running annother step. Her muscles felt sore and her throat felt dry when she finally let herself stop and rest but not even that could get his face out of her head or the dream out of her heart. Everything felt so real but at the same time she knew it wasn't. Still breathing heavily, she walked forward a little bit more, the new looking houses and the plantlife of the city got more and more old looking and dead the farther she walked. "This is weird... I dont think I've ever seen this part of the city before..." she thought to herself as she walked foreward. All of the houses were broken down and the windows were cracked or boarded up. The farther she walked the more destroyed things got until they just ended. Rai looked back, she could see the city far behind her. She was somewhere outside the city. She looked ahead again, thinking maybe she should turn back and go home but not listening to logic anymore. Whats the worst that could happen at this point? she thought to herself sarcasticly.

 

Arlene shrugged "No newbie huh? Well I'll have to put that to the test later when we dont have so many witnesses." she laughed "As for who I am, trust me I aint Saki's girl. I've tried messing around with the boss man before and it ended with a kiss on the lips and a stab in the back. The name's Arlene and I guess you could call me your babysitter see this organization doesn't need any washout castaways who'll turn out running off the moment things start getting tough. That put it simple enough for you?"

Siah blushed "Well... actually I was going to leave that one up to you." she replied.

The lights from the city were all far behind Rai now. She was walking in almost complete darkness except the moon and starlight. Rai could see outlines of things in the shadows but thats about it. Something about this place made her feel uneasy, almost afraid. But at the same time there was a morbid curiosity that drew her farther out.

 

Arlene just laughed "Oh really? So maybe I shouldn't point out that one of the people you were sent here to kill just nearly ran right into you a second ago and the other ran past us just now and you didn't even know it."

Siah smiled "Sounds ok to me." she said with a shrug. Part of her was a little worried about what her parents would think about this, getting married right after highschool. But it was different with Calder and Siah. They had been together for six years, never had a fight, and technically they were already bonded anyway because of what they did in the heart of Destiny Island one year ago. Marrage would just make it more official.

Rai noticed the sun was starting to rise over the horizion behind her. She glared again wondering how long she had been asleep before and how long that guy had been in her house. I surely havent been walking that long... right? in the new comming light Rai could see easier and could see she was standing dead center of a dead wasteland. She could see the city on the horizon all around her but for some reason, this place was empty not even grass grew here. Everything was stone and cold. "This is odd... I thought for sure I've seen everything there is to see on this world yet no one has ever mentioned this place before." she muttered to herself, looking around. Just then a memory from her dream briefly invaided her mind.
The little girl was there again. All of them were, a lot of them looked confused except Voltair. He looked more angry, hurt, and hopeless. Rai remembered wanting to find some way to make him smile. She didn't like seeing him upset... especially seeing as it was her that caused it. the memory skipped and Rai looked around, that memory was here. In this dead zone of the City of Dawn. There was a war here, I wanted to find some way to help them but I knew the only way to do that now was to do what I came here to do. I had to die, to destroy one for the sake of the many. I brought the little girl back here to this clearing and I told her what had to be done. Rai remembered watching a tear run down the little girls face as she turned her keyblade on her friend. Rai shook her head, suddenly wanting to get as far away from this place as humanly possible. She turned to walk back to the city...
"You've tried running away from your past before and it didn't work then. What makes you think you can this time?" someone asked behind her.
Rai turned to see someone standing there cloaked in black. Rai couldn't see their face "Who are you?"
The other person chuckled darkly "Who I am? I dont think you really want to know just now but I'm glad you came out here. That makes it easier to fill out my assignment."
"What assignment?" Rai began to ask but the other person interrupted her.
"You're confused, thats understandable. You dont know if you can trust the man who broke into your house and that makes sence too. You were made for more than a regular life here, Rai. I can help you to understand who you really are and what happened here one year ago." he held his hand out to her "All you gotta do is trust me."
