The World of Infinity

Welcome to the world of Infinity!

Setting:

Post-Apocalyptic. So far it will consist of two planets (in one galaxy), with ample space travel and communication between them (infact, one can even travel from one to the other on foot!). I intend for there to be more, uncolonized/undiscovered planets, but so far there are only two known planets, which are connected by a series of pipes. Neither planet has any natural water sources, and instead water is manufactured with sophisticated technology. The planets are connected by a massive pipeline, and because of the artificial nature of this connection, the planet Infinity spins much quicker than it used to (See Story below) and its days are very short.

Planet Aleph (pronounced “Al-Eff”) - A planet seared from too much solar radiation, Aleph is said to hold a great power beneath its surface. Little is known about the planet except that many rogue citizens find sanctuary on Aleph as the laws are more relaxed than those on Beth. The atmosphere is rather harsh, due to the cosmic debris and the planet's natural decomposition. At the present time, the planet is mined for its rich collection of minerals and precious gasses.

Planet Beth (pronounced “Bet”) - The residential planet, Beth is the epicentre of Infinity. Spawning rich colonies of many species which were carried over from Earth on a modern day "Noah's Ark" its animal life is almost identical to that found on Earth. This is to the astonishment of biologists everywhere, since the ecosystem is preserved with a complete lack of plantlife. As on Aleph, there is no plentiful water supply, and so residents must rely on manufactured water.

Population – 8,000,000,000 according to last year’s census (all verbally responsive species accounted for)

Infinity Pipe-line - The ingenious infinity pipeline was designed to correct the problems associated with the two planets (See Story below). There are no permanent residents in the pipeline, and there is no atmosphere. Travellers use the concept of free-falling to travel from one planet to the other using ships that resemble modern boats in appearance, but are powered by advanced energy sources..

Population – It only houses those who are fugitives, as it functions much like ‘international waters.’





Story:
The legend is as follows…

After a horrific union of world governments on earth into a ‘one world government’ and a corrupt emperor’s betrayal of his kinsmen, the planet earth fell into decay. Nuclear Fallout. Amateur rocket builders began to leave the earth in search of new planets capable of sustaining human life. Many such amateurs were lost and never heard from again.

After hundreds of years of enslavement and planetary destruction, the people of Earth grew desperate. One researcher had a brilliant idea. There was one planet in a nearby Galaxy which was slightly too close to the sun and hence too hot to sustain life, and one which was just out of range and would be too cold to sustain human life. So the scientist thought, “why not build a bridge between the two? They would combine their masses, and average their mechanical energies and hence travel in orbit together…at the correct distance!”

And so the scientist set out to build the Infinity Pipeline on the unknown planet (now named Aleph). Based on his calculations, he was able to determine when the planets would pass very close to each other, and ‘caught’ the planet Beth in the loose arm of the pipeline. He named the combined unit “Infinity” (since it looks like an infinity symbol). The collision was catastrophic, and the combined unit (see picture above) began to spin sporadically out of control….it found its new orbit, but an unanticipated problem arose. There was a change in angular momentum, and so the planet Infinity had a very short daily cycle.

Upon hearing news of the successful project, many citizens of Earth rejoiced, built amateur ships and set course for Infinity. Environmentalists, distraught over the destruction of earth, developed a ship of Noah’s Ark proportions. They found two of each species of animal, a male and a female, and headed for Infinity also.
Infinity grew as a paradise despite its lack of water. The planet Aleph cooled, and the planet Beth heated until they were both fairly comfortable to live on (See planet details under Setting above). Its population grew, and people began to adapt to their environment. Few humans as we knew today exist.

People are beginning to forget their heritage and live in bliss as though nothing occurred. They settled primarily on the planet Beth, and did their mining on planet Aleph. No one knows precisely what dwells below the surface of Aleph, but a rumor among miners is that they can sometimes hear screams from deep below…


Creatures/Races:


Enelorian (Human) – The legends say the Enelorians are named after Enelore, the scientist who built the Infinity Pipeline. A typical human being as found on earth (not meant to be RP’d, more as NPCs), who are inferior to their Infinitian counterparts.

Infinitian (Advanced-Human) - Enelorians are humanoids who have, in response to their new ecosystem, developed a heightened sense of kinesthesia. They have superior balance (agility), neural function (magic) and motor-function (coordination/strength).

(More to come as necessary! Infinity can sustain many types of life, and even extra-terrestrial races, or vampires, etc.)

Plot:

I’m a very open-ended kind of guy, I don’t like specifying too much of the plot. But here are some ideas / things I’m hoping for:

- People play allies…I don’t like ‘killing off’ characters, and would rather kill off NPCs. This leads to fewer peoples’ feelings being hurt, and more adaptive roleplay.

- I like the whole ‘party’ system. Travelling in groups among friends. If you’d like to join in at any time, feel free to do so.

- People suggest the existence of monsters / villains as we RP. Now I know some people will not like this, as it’s kind of disorganized…but I think it’s a lot more fun to have a ‘piece of the action’ than to just take my suggestions. For instance, if say two people are having a battle, one may suggest that they are ambushed, and a third person may enter saving their lives.
**DISCLAIMER** Please try to familiarize yourself with other peoples’ characters so you don’t do anything too out of character with their characters.

- I’d like the RP to be about exploration. If you have any ideas of a nice place like a town which we should visit, or a dungeon, landmass, anything like that, just lead everyone there and describe it. I’ll be doing my fair share of this…but I really would like this to be a world we create together.

My suggestion for beginning the story, is a mining accident on Aleph, and a monster sighting on the planet’s surface.

Rules:

- Have fun! Allow people to ‘borrow’ a character for a little while, to do such things as follow, or to speed up the speech process a little. (I realize this bothers some people. If you can’t stand people talking for you, please give it a try, and make a character that you wouldn’t be too ticked off about someone playing wrong!) I guarantee if you give it a chance and people do things in good taste, you’ll have fun with it. (And of course if someone does something out of character, point it out and let them know). I believe they call it power playing and it's 'against the RP rules' here. I think that's not quite the case...I think if you 'power play' knowing fully well what the character will do (ie. you've done your homework) then it shouldn't be a problem, right?

- Nothing too unbelievable. Your character can have magical abilities, but try to be modest with the special powers (No “god-moding”). I’ve tried to make the story semi-realistic (even with the physics), so please try to do the same with your characters.

- I’ve tried to make this inviting and appealing, and have spent a lot of time preparing the details. Let me know if something is lame, or you dislike the rules…we can work with that.

Something else? (It sounds like you're making him Enelorian, but I'm not sure if you have something else in mind)

To anyone unsure of how to join this: I'll post my character for this in a moment...but yes, Desert Warrior did exactly the kind of thing that fits Just choose a character, even if you want to base them off of a video game or something, and give them a new name, and try to imagine what good deeds (or bad deeds) they may have done in the past. Just RP what you want to RP, try to really have fun with it!

Does your character need friendship? Excitement? Money? Mine will be slightly gothic, but good hearted...a character seeking redemption.

 

EDIT: I'm unsure of exactly what 'formatting' entails...Is it the colours that are problematic? I could make it all just black text if that'd help. Fixed it...hope that's better.


Just had a thought about the planet Barok. Did you want me to add a description for Barok (yours) and make it accessible from Infinity via space travel? Will your character be a foreign visitor to Infinity, (and/or their part of the story will take place on Barok?)

Or, would you like it to be the planet Aleph (of course the Baroka wouldn't call it Aleph) and they're simply on another, uncharted (by the Infinitians/Enelorians) section? It would make sense given the storyline for Aleph (and how it was 'just too cold' to sustain life, as well as how everyone is mining there) but I don't know if the Baroka would be comfortable having their planet anchored to another, haha.

Name: D'amiens Laurent (Pronounced "Dame-yen Low-ront" (Like french))

Age: 20 (Though at the beginning of our tale, he will have suffered an amnesic episode and does not know this)

Gender: Male

Race: Infinitian

Motto: "A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new." ~Albert Einstein

History: D'amiens is haunted by the memory of much evil, and much hardship. He feels he is to blame for the evil he sees. Many of his actions may be performed out of guilt, as what D'amiens truly seeks, is redemption for the way he has wronged others. Is D'amiens truly evil at the core? Is his mind slipping? Or is some authority tormenting him?

He was born on Beth to an Infinitian who was impregnated by an Enelorian. It was an unwanted pregnancy, and so D'amiens was brought into this world with a lot of emotional baggage. His mother abandonned him at the age of two, leaving him helplessly in the desert with very little understanding of his powers. He was found by an Enelorian named Handel Laurent who felt pity on the young child. He took D'amiens in, named him, and cared for him as his own. D'amiens literally means "Of Amiens," which marks the location where he was found.

(I'm deliberately leaving a large window here, since D'amiens has his amnesic episode...but all will be revealed eventually )

Prior to the events of this story, Handel passed away. D'amiens is haunted by images of himself slaughtering Handel in a horrifying manner. Handel pleads for forgiveness but D'amiens continues to strangle him with his own intestines, which D'amiens has exposed by slicing open Handel's navel. There are various other visions D'amiens has, such as burning down a village with some type of powerful fire magic. The problem is, D'amiens has no idea which memories are true, and which are just fabrications of a troubled mind.

When our story begins, D'amiens finds himself in a cavern on Aleph, in the dark. He must solve a bit of a puzzle to escape, and it is at this moment that he feels as though he had opted to imprison himself willingly.

Personality: D'amiens is a very formal, 'gentlemanly' individual. Handel used to aimiably refer to D'amiens as "The Baron" since he presents himself much like a nobleman. He speaks in a sophisticated manner, rarely using contractions or slang, and tries to be polite, overly courteous to women.

Weaponry: D'amiens is a capable swordsman. His gentlemanly attitude makes him a natural when it comes to fencing. However, he is particularly fond of hand to hand combat, and is typically unarmed having little more than a mere walking stick.

Armor: D'amiens wears very light clothes, usually a mere tunic or cloth shirt and for more formal occasions, a trench overcoat or cloak.

Magic: D'amiens subscribes to various schools of magic including the arcane, fire, and holy schools. Handel attempted to train D'amiens in the ways of the Templar, and as such D'amiens knows basic healing spells. He also has a natural affinity for the arcane and fire. He also has some shadow ability which he is unable to fully comprehend at the present time (see below).

Special Abilities: D'amiens, due to his darkened state, has been known to accidentally reanimate corpses in his sleep. If he channels such energy, he has been known to successfully reanimate corpses who obey (but not resurrect the dead).

-Lip-color;
-Hair-color;
-Hair-style (Is it short? Long? Spikey? Curly?);
-What type of facial hair (if any)? Is it thick or thin?
-Is your character youthful or elderly?
-Eyes (Are they wide? Narrow? Are they open? Are they narrow slits? Do the eyelids fold (Like a caucasian style) or are they flush (like an asian style)?)
-Lastly, is your character to look happy? Angry? Neutral? Sad?

The only extra thing I'd like to know is, since you've chosen a unique race, how does your character arrive on Infinity? Which planet do they spend their time on? Things like that. (If you'd rather just jump in at an appropriate time once the RP starts, that's ok too)

 

Sorry it got so dead, I was hoping another person or two might show interest. I'm hoping they might once the RP picks up, but only time will tell!
