I looked through some pages and I haven't found anything about this subject so I might as well start it ^^

Okay fast food has become the way of eating for a lot of individuals in the world, but particularly in North America. It has caused an extreme number in the rate of obese people. This cuts our life short, an obese man will lose 20 years off of his life expectancy and a woman will lose 5. Obesity is associated with many harmful diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep and certain types of cancer. But that's not it, if a person consumes too much fast food their internal clock can be 50 while the individual themselves is 20. Sometimes a person wont even notice a physical change from eating fast food, they may look thin on the outside but on the inside their body is aging slowly, and they can also get type 2 diabetes and cholesterol problems. Cholesterold problems from over eating fast food is becoming real huge in Britain and is taking the lives of many people. Sure over eating isn't the only factor that causes obesity thyroid problems also will effect your weight, but for the most part it's fast food that's getting at us. So my question is: Should fast food be banned, since it causes so much problems in todays society?? Discuss :]

I don't see a problem with fast food to be honest, Its more the way that people abuse fast food. Granted its alot quicker and easier then cooking but as you have said it does cause alot of problems.

I don't think it should be banned but it would help if it was moderated to the amount that people themselves could have.

I don't think fast foods are real bad. As long as people take care of their bodies by watching carbs, calories, fat, so on, exercise, and everything they should be fine. The reason why Americans are obese is because we're lazy, yes even I'm lazy(however I still go out and exercise) We're to lazy to go exercise, to lazy to keep track of everything. That is why we're obese. It's not so much the fast food.

However the fast fod is bad and should not be eaten every single day, let alone more than 2 times a week. Fast food minium should be eaten once a week, but we all break that rule, yes even I(then again I'm a very buisy person with band, scouts, flute, piccolo, piano, so on) People are always on the go so fast food is eaten a lot, so unless restarants with good gourmet food(even Subway, I know my subway does not have a drive thru) get faster and get drive thrus Americans aren't going to care about themselves. A quick fact, food for buisnesses were once very good fancy food but now a days some buisnesses as little eating treats sort of thinngs have McDonalds Frensh Fries.

Fast food is bad though and should be eaten on rare ocasions.

Tip for fast food, you should watch the movie Super Size Me(it's also the reason why McDonalds took away there super size fries and drink)

Quick fact, did you know the new sweet tea glasses for McDonalds are just a little smaller than the super size drinks

Fast Food is great. Good tasting, cheap, easy to make, the only problem is too much. But isn't that an iron law of the world? Too much of a good thing is bad? isn't that pretty much how fast food works?

still, i'll never say no to Taco Bell.

Like the people above have said, fast food is good in certain quantities. It IS good tasting (depends on ppl making it at times), "fast" to get, and cheap if your not buying for 10+ ppl. Downside; too MUCH could hurt you. After all, you dont get a heart attack from a single burger, but you WILL if you have a whole bunch a day for...err....a while ^^" (depends on person as well)
Point; Fast food shouldn't be banned, but you yourself should be careful not to eat too much. Besides, to be banned because of "too many problems in today's society" would mean many, MANY things would be banned.

Contrast our (North American) diet with those in other parts of the world.

The French drink excessive amounts of wine (by American standards), eat more of the 'bad fats' (fondue, various brands of cheese) carbohydrates (baguettes and various breads), and ironically, less protein! Without a doubt their diet is worse than even a typical, fast-food eating American's, in terms of its raw components.

Who do you think lives longer? The french have a very low incidence of coronary heart disease, diabetes and all that other junk.

It's called the French-Paradox. (Wikipedia: French paradox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

This is the case in many places on earth, but the french are the most obvious, eye-opening example...including the Africans, Europeans, Japanese (who ingest very small amounts of protein compared to Americans), etc.

My professor used to jokingly say "Speaking english is what kills us."

Registered Dietitians and those doing Nutritional Research are convinced it's the lifestyle, not the diet, that gives us these disorders. Namely, our outlook on the whole situation is wrong...and these 'diseases of comfort' are not caused by a poor diet (since worse diets prevail), but instead by high levels of stress and a sedentary lifestyle.

In North America, everything is all about business...we have a 'crap I'm late!' lifestyle where we're always rushing to get here or there. That's what ultimately does us in.

Well too much of anything is bad for you. Everything has to be Moderated and not just Fast Food.
Fast Food just has to be watched upon more so than another thing. It can be bad for you, it can be good. Someone might need a higher intake of salts than others, A fast Food franchise can help them (although making your own food is better).
But as the term suggests "Fast Food" is food that is fast and can be eaten on the go. It's just a convenient place to get some food if you are in a rush.
I don't think it should be banned. People just need to be aware of the consequences, I do agree how it is a major influence to obesity these days but most of them are kids and most of them aren't aware of the dangers of obesity.

Another quick fact: The McDonald's Big Mac has the calories of about 15 Super Size drinks (they're mostly water).

I rearely eat fast food, I only go 2 times at the most a month. I prefer In-n-out burger

I'm kind of like Honor Guard because I only eat from fast food restaurants twice a month at most... I don't drink their sodas though because I can't consume any pop v.v... I get a reaction to it so I only drink water... So because I don't eat fast food much, I wouldn't really care if it got banned... But some people to have to go places in a hurry so sometimes fast food is the only option... I just wish they were able to make food that was better for you very fast, but that's more then likely not going to happen... Even those restaurants that claim to be better for your health have something wrong with them... For example, Subway is a restaurant that everyone says is the best for your health, but it contains high sodium levels in their dessing that they put on your subs... And vegetable oil which is a commonly used ingredient for when you're cooking contains 120 calories in a tablespoon which is a bit too much.... I don't think though that fast food should be banned, it wouldn't effect me but for others it would make some things a little more hard, but maybe they should make a guide that suggest how much fast food a person can eat in a month depending on your size and age :3

They have calorie/fats/sugar/salts/etc lists on the boxes/wrappers the burgers come in where I am, but how many people know what daily intake of certain things is recommended and how much is too much?
I myself don't know (kind of makes me sound a bit ignorant) but I haven't touched fast food for a very long time, more than a month to say the least. But me not knowing just shows an example of someone in the world not knowing what the recommendations are, although I do know the consequences and do limit myself to such treats like fast foods.

Honestly, I don't think there should be any laws concerning fast food except laws making sure that the fast food doesn't have any disease or anything like that.

And there shouldn't be any laws regulating fast food because it is stupid. Everybody has to suffer because some people can't control themselves? It's stupid. Honestly, let somebody go and get a heart attack from too much fast food. It is their fault. Let people see the consequences of their actions for once.

And as a side note. From what Mike pointed out, it seems right. It is the lifestyle. Here's something to learn. In that movie Kairi Star pointed out, Supersize Me, they show a guy who absolutely loves Big Macs. He has somewhere around 5 a day. But he is extremely thin. Explain that one.

    Mmmmmmmmmm.............. 4x4...............

Well, look at Scooby and Shaggy! They eat like mad and stay thin! XD

Dude could run or excercise, do different things than just eat. He could also eat differently at home too. Or the Big Mac thing could be exaggerated =/
