It had been almost 3 years since his enrollment in The Academy but Reson was still getting used to the differences between this life and military life. He couldn't have imagined so many people being so happy with this mundane lifestyle. They're like a bunch of animals being herded towards the next step in their lives...how do they not see it coming. Reson had always been a very pragmatic person and worked towards perfection always with a routine. These other students however were just following a lame daily routine that never seemed to change or have excitement.
    "Reson, hey Res, bud"
"Oh sorry Jin, I was just thinking."
"Well you gotta pay attention man, you almost hit that girl back there. What were you thinking about anyways?"
"Nothing really, I was just thinking."
"Come on Res, I know you better than that."
"Fine, I was thinking about how lame this whole academy life thing is and how all these people have no idea how lame their lives actually are."
"Dude you've gotta remember that you know what's out there and what the real world has to offer, because you've taken the time to experience life. Most of these people probably have been going from one school to the next school through their entire life, they're not like us, they haven't had to deal with the harsh realities of life."
"I know that Jin, but still they just seem so...what's the word for it...monotonous."
"Like I said, they've just lived sheltered lives. They'll learn what it's like to live in the real world soon enough."
"What's that supposed to mean Jin?"
"What that means is that your old buddy Jin managed to contact a buddy of his that controls the patrol outside the iso-zone and set up for the entire Academy to take a trip out with them and learn more about the wild. The trip is scheduled to happen in a couple weeks, meeting about it is later today, don't be late."
"You know that what you did is potentially deadly to everyone right? We still aren't sure what some of those things out there are capable of."
"Lighten up Res. This will be a learning experience for them. Anyways I'll talk to ya later I gotta go to class."
    "Yea, see ya later man."
I guess this could be a good learning experience for the other students, but I can't help but think about how dangerous some of the things out there are. Even though we're going with a patrol group this could end in disaster. Res would always remember the image of his patrol leader getting eaten and digested alive by a giant plant. There hadn't been anything Res could do but end his captain's pain early and kill the plant with the same swipe of his blade. The image of his captain's half digested still living body would haunt him for the remainder of his life, but the screams would haunt him forever.
I guess it's probably time I got to class. Res looked around and realized the halls were empty and probably had been for a few minutes. He then looked up at the clock in the hall and realized he was five minutes late to his class that was across campus. This time I'm in trouble for sure. Res took off full sprint towards the building his class was in. He cut directly across campus hurdling low stone walls and fences that got in his way. When Res finally reached the building he saw his class and other classes heading out towards the door he was at. He realized this was his chance to try and blend into the crowd of them and try to go unnoticed. Res managed the blend nearly perfectly, but still managed to bump into a girl that had been standing there waiting for the crowd to move.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hit you."
After he apologized Res moved to the front of the group deciding he wanted to find out where they were going right now. As he moved forward he heard other people talking and wondering the same thing. Could this be the meeting about the trip Jin mentioned? Res had finally reached the front of the group and was standing next to his professor now.
"Hey, professor, where are we going?"
"We're going to the audience hall, the entire academy will be there, it's some kind of meeting about something."
"Oh, do you happen to know what the meeting is about?"
"Yea, but only a little bit, it's about some trip the entire academy will be taking somewhere."
    "Thanks professor."
Res quickly slid back into the crowd and decided this must be the meeting Jin was talking about. As they reached the audience hall he saw Jin standing up on the stage with the Dean...this was definetly the meeting. Res decided that this meeting was only for him to catch tidbits of infromation because he already knew most of it from Jin.

While everyone was filling in the band for teh academy stood on teh stage playing different patriotic music. The smallest of the group was just a young 15 year old. Force to join the miltary due to her father's death and she didn't have a brother. She was the only piccolo player in the small band and stuck out the most for her height, looks, and her sound. Soon the drum major stopped the group and had them file off the stage to sit down. Like always, teh band took up all the rest of teh seats and Nic, the girl in the band, got yelled at. Nic was pushed by an upperclassmen to sit down. She did and dug into her pocket she had her piccolo case. She looked next to her to see an upplerclassmen boy(Res). Everyone to her though was an upperclassmen. She never talked to anyone because of that. She promised one day when people her own age came to the school she'd talk to them.

She opened her piccolo case and began taking apart her piccolo and putting it away.

Riley pulled his head phones down so he could hear better. This entire meeting seemed like a drag down to him. What he wouldn't give to be back in his psychology classes right now. Just to get the chance at looking at things differently. These assemblies were usually all the same, "Don't do drugs", "Stay away from alchohol", "These were victims of suicide. Here are the warnings and here's how to help". Bah! It was already enough to but him to sleep! Riley fumbled to open his note book and jotted down a few things he was going to write about later.

Zack had heard about the meeting from one of his friends. Frankly, could have cared less. He was always like that really. He laughed at any person who was in a rush. People who just did things, and never stopped to see how much life there really was in the world. Speaking of which, there went a few more kids. Sophomores by the looks of them, all in a rush to get to this meeting. He sighed, then went back to practicing his combat techniques. First thrust, then jump back like this. Next, curve the blade down to the right, but then change direction and go for that thrust again. To slow, okay, now back up. Parry, and go in for that good ol three slash move Master taught you. Thats it, just flow through the moves.
He almost stabbed his foot when he heard a girl scream. He turned just in time to see a freshman beauty run by, chased by a senior. Zack could see the lust in that mans eyes. He knew what that meant, thanks to his hard life on the streets when he was a boy. He had always been forced to stand by and watch. Not any more. He stepped forward, and sliced the mans shirt open. No not a man, an animal. Anyone who even considered this was not a person, just a filthy animal. The guy was shocked. "What the hell!?"
"I find people like you disgusting." With that, Zack began driving him back with swings of his sword not meant to hit, but to herd. Finally the animal was backed up to a tree. "If i ever see you chasing any one ever again, i will finish the job off. Now get out of my sight." He turned and began to walk away. The only warning he got was the feeling of air hitting his neck, but that was all he needed. He turned, crouching, and hit the person in the solar plexes. There was a whooshing sound as all of the air was knocked out of him. Zack came up, landing a terrible hit to the guys jaw, sending him crashing to the ground. "Don't think trash like you can beat me. I was fighting while you were learning your A, B, fucking C's." He walked back to the building, slicing the head of a dandelion off its stem, and cutting it perfectly down the middle. Now the mood was spoiled, so he decided that he might as well go to the meeting.

Will sat under a tree on the school grounds, longsword leaning against the tree and guitar case next to him, open and empty. He strummed the guitar, tuning it slowly. He finally got it tuned and started to strum away at a song he listened to earlier. "Drop C tuning... cut time..." He muttered, strumming quicker along with his memory of the song.

Zack noticed the guitarist under the tree. He also recognized the song. "Mind having a penny whistle play along?" After he got a nod, He pulled out the whistle and began playing, letting his notes spin throw the harmony like leaves in a autumn wind. After the song was over, Zack un-belted his Rapier, and got some lunch out of the bag. He silently offered a sand-which to this stranger, and began to eat.

Will smiled and accepted the sandwich, biting into it and chewing slowly. "So, who are you and how'd you end up here?" Will asked, setting the guitar in the case and polishing it with his free hand. These days people always had a story with them. Either about themselves or about travellers.

"Names Zackarias Alvo. Call me Zack, all my friends do" He grinned, then took another bite. "Not much to say. Hmm, i was born in a alley. Was raised on the streets, and managed to get in here on a scholar ship. Amazing how things can turn out. I'm not one for telling my life's stories. Suffice to say that i just happen to be around when big things happen, hence me being able to use a sword." He patted his rapier. It had a simple, yet powerful look to it. A rose was emblazoned on the guard.

Will nodded. "Same here. My mom died during child birth and my dad was a raging alcoholic. I ran away and lived with my grandfather and failed school but somehow got a scholarship. I had to travel here on my own so I learned to use this thing quick." He said, patting the longsword next to the tree. "Onyx with gold dust imbedded into it when it was forged."

Zack whistled. "Very nice. That musta been pricy. This things just made of cold hard steel. Apparently it was forged differently. It will never break in combat, or my money back. They say this sword becomes stronger when blood flows around the rose. Thats why i call it, The Bloody Rose.

Will smiled. "Mine's a family heirloom and I got it at my grandfather's funeral. This thing was forged specially, the gold dust allowing it to never break and allow it to be such a large blade." He said, indicating at the large tip. "I call it the Gilded Sword because the gold dust was gilded into it when it was smithed." He said, drawing the sword to show the orange patches on the black blade. "It is perfectly balanced and weighs 5.8 pounds total." He said, handing the blade to Zack. "May I?" He asked, indicating towards the rapier.

Zack was torn. He liked this guy, but as with every swords-man, he was loathe to let him handle it. Then he decided that if Will was willing to let him hold his sword, then Zack should let him hold his own. One good turn deserves another. Still, "How about this. We'll have a spar, and afterwards we can try fighting with each others sword. Deal?" He smiled. At last he would get to fight someone actually worthy of his skill.

Will grinned and shut the guitar case, finishing the sandwich. He nodded and said. "Sure." He stood, kicking the sheath up into his hand and slinging it over his shoulder. He also pulled something from under the guitar case. It was a shield, red steel with a mirror in the middle, a sun and moon design on it. He slung this onto the sheath and said. "I have my equipment, do you?" He asked.

"Aww, you need a shielf for little ole me?" He pulled a pair of black leather gloves out of his pocket, and put them on. Then, he belted on his sheath, and drew his sword. "First cut?" He asked. His sword made a swishing sound as he moved it through the air. The sun struck the side of it, making it gleam. Let me see. Judging from my current information, he will be one of those guys that protects his chest. Hence that shield. If i get his shield gone, i should be able to get him since he wont be blocking his sword.

Will left the shield on his back, blocking with the sword with two hands and spinning it, knocking Zack's blade to the side and allowing him to step forward, using his shiled arm to push Zack back hard. If he had his shield on it would have felt like a battering ram to his chest.

Or not. Zack jumped to the side, his blade whistling through the air, only to be blocked by Will's. "NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" He shouts over the sound of steel hitting steel. He tried every trick he could use in the current situation, but Will was a tough guy. He blocked an overhead strike, and let it slip of his sword, putting Will off balance. Grinning, Zack lunged.

Will grinned as he brought up his gauntlet and the sword slammed against silver. "Another family heirloom." He roared, kicking Zack in the chest and twirling the longsword in Zack's direction as if it was as light as a feather.

"Not fair." Zack called as he hit the ground. He rolled out of the way just seconds before Will's sword hit the ground. Coulda killed me. Thanks to the fact that Will had taken a power stroke, he was now off balance. Zack rose up from the ground like a god rising from the earth, and with a swish of his blade, nicked Wills arm. The Rapier seemed to gleam gleefully as a small amount of blood appeared on its tip. A small line of blood was now on Will's arm, and a streak of it was flying through the air. "Cut." Zack said in a tired voice. His sword was behind him, as it was a slash that had been the finishing strike. His head was facing the ground, almost as if he was bowing to Will, although you could see that this was far from the truth. A wind picked up, making Zack's hair rustle. Finally he straightened up and said with a smile, "You're not half bad. If I needed anyone to watch my back, I'd want you watching it."

Rolling out of bed Kardorious hit the floor with a thud."Oww"Suddenly his pager went off."Who could that be?!"Checking his pager he noticed it was the hospital. Apparently they had been trying to reach him for quite sometime now. Looking up at the clock he saw that he was an hour and a half late to surgery. "OOO crap!" Suddenly jumping into the air, landing and stubbing his toe. "Sweet mother of god!!!!" Quickly putting on his clothes he rushed to the hospital. Looking at his watch every five steps and wondered if the other surgens would have gone on with the surgery without him. He doubted it, but thought it not out of the question. Reaching his office he slightly opened the door to see his patient waiting in the room. Fully turning the door handle he open the door. "Sorry I am late but I was having car troubles." He lied.
"That's ok, I just want to get this over with."
"Well, if you'll go with my nurse she'll get you preped for surgery." Watching the women come out of anesthesia and back to life all of the docters, nurses and surgens shook his hand on a job well done and congradulated him. Looking up at the clock he realized that he only had 35 min until his night school started. "Oh, crap!!" Changing out of his blood riden clothes he ran out to try and make it to class on time. "7:34, I might be able to make it, I hope" running up the steps of the college the campus was empty. slamming into his locker he threw it open and shoved his miscellaneous stuff into his locker. Running through the hall way he ignored the loud noise he was probably making, watching the clock as it turned to 7:37 he just about slid past his classroom."What the hell is this?" Peering through the small glass fitted to the door he saw no on e in the classroom. Looking slightly to the left he noticed a note that stated that all students will be in the audience hall from the start of class to about 8:30. Even further down was printed in small lettering(It was hard for him to see without his glasses)A meeting will be held for students to learn about a trip of a lifetime. "Sounds boring, but I have to be there so." Casualy walking as there was no point in running anymore to the Audince Hall he felt his pockets for his glasses. In doing so he felt the inner pocket of his vest amd felt something sharp."OH, great!" Remembering that he forgot to take out the scalples out of his pocket."Hope they don't have a security check today cause I would be screwed!!" Reaching the Hall Door he reached for the handle only to hesitate to open it.

This meeting might as well be over now. Reson slowly got up and started to walk away. He didn't realize it until he heard the clunk of something hitting the floor. He had accidently knocked the instrument case out of the hands of the girl sitting next to him.
"I'm so sorry, I've gotta go right now otherwise I'd help you, but I'm really sorry about that....I owe ya one."
Reson normally would have helped the girl pick up her case, but he was in a hurry to get out of there. Reson had just checked his watch and realized that he had about five minutes until he was late for a meeting with the officer in charge of his brigade. I'll never live this one down. Reson's commanding officer was usually a fun-loving guy, but the exception to the rule is when someone wasn't on time. Whenever someone had been late, even with a good excuse the commander was ruthless and the person who was late usually ended up running until he passed out. Reson wouldn't let that happen tonight.
I only have to make it about amile off campus, I can do that in five minutes. He took off at a full sprint in the direction of the base. If I cut through yards and alleys I can probably cut about an eighth of the run off. Reson kept telling himself that this wasn't too difficult and that he could manage to make it in time, but then he saw two other students having a mock fight. The moment he saw them Reson knew he had to go over there and remind them that they should be in at the meeting.
"Hey guys, don't forget about the meeting, it's pretty important that you're there. To catch you up quick guys, the meeting is about a trip that everyone will be going on soon. We're going outside the iso-zone with a patrol group."
Reson again took off at a full sprint towards the base. He was sure he'd be late now. He hit an alleyway that he knew would take him through a shortcut and he turned on it. As soon as he had turned Reson had run into something, he wasn't sure what it was, but he thought it felt like a wall. He stuttered back a couple steps and looked up into the eyes of six feet tall 235 pounds of muscle. I'm definitly going to be late.
Reson watched as the man pulled his massive greatsword from his back and brandished it in front of him. Reson couldn't help but picture what the sword would do to him even at a glancing blow. As the giant of a man took his first sidelong swing Reson easily jumped it and realized that the blade of the greatsword alone was as big as him. Reson took his first swing at the guy and clipped his arm drawing a thin line of blood...the other man didn't even acknowledge the blow except to laugh. Reson knew he was in trouble as he watched the blood flow down the other man's arm. Reson dove off to his left avoiding the man's downward swing. He noticed the man's grip slipping on the greatsword due to the blood that had flown onto the handle. Maybe this won't be so difficult.
Reson quickly dashed forward jumping onto the flat side of the greatsword and sprinted up it hoping to finish the fight with one quick slash, but felt the sword starting to lift with him on it. Reson realized he wouldn't make it to the man's neck so he scored some deep slashes on the man's arms, one of them nearly removing the left arm. The man then stopped raising the sword allowing Reson to continue running up it to score a solid hit on the man's neck. Reson dashed straight through with the slash that removed the man's head.
Reson refused to look back at the man on the ground whose severed neck was now probably spouting blood like a water fountain. He refused to because he still wanted to try and make it to the base with the two inutes or so he had left. Replacing his sword in it's sheath Reson took off again at a full sprint.
