What is the greatest martial art in your opinion?
My opinion is judo, because I am a judokan, and almost any other martial art fighter that has gone up to a Master judo fighter gets there ass handed back to them on a silver platter.

I'm gonna start by saying I don't know all the types of martial arts, let alone know about each individual one you put up there.

But I'll also say that I don't think there is one martial art that is truly better than every other.

As you said with Judo. People get beaten by it all the time. But that is because Judo is mainly about thowing people down to the ground; it's more defensive. I'm sure there is at least one martial art out there in this world that can easily beat Judo.

true. all martial arts have different styles so it's pretty difficult to determine which.

Uh, what do you call that martial arts who uses staffs?

  6. Blade

Blade Heroes Have One or Two

there's a couple of martial arts with staff. the one on the list would be Jogo do pau, which is the Portuguese version. then there's bojutsu, which is the japanese version.

This should be more along the lines of what is your FAVORITE, not which is best. There isnt any one martial art that is supreme, otherwise no one would even take the time to learn the others.

Agreed. But we tend to call our favorites the best, don't we? I admit that I am guilty of this in certain cases. Tessen are the coolest weapons ever... :)

Yes, but either way it should be favorites Personaly I think a combo of them all would be good, for example a friend taught me some karate, anotehr taught me some taekwondo, and a friend of mine showed me some judo, so I say combinations are way better. Then again I only learned minor stuff and have no belts.

personally, i like shaolin kungfu since it has different styles. on a random note, i forgot all of my karate lessons.

I just love staffs. THat's just me. (My name, that's what) Funny thing about it, a couple of months ago, me & a best friend of mine was fighting, him with a sword & me with my staff & he called me a barbarian because the way I swing my staff. What is Sambo anyways? At first, I thought it was a dance.

    not easily D.W.

And as for the favorites thing, I guess your right to the degree that it comes down to each individual person and not the arts themselves. But each art has an element that makes it its own. So the real question, if you wanna get really into this, would be which art has the greatest element that makes it special. Which one of those elements is the best. If an average joe learned all of those, which one(s) would he remember the most? From my personal experiences, I say judo.

Can you prove it? Can you gather the best of each type and have them go against the best in judo? And then how are you so sure that nothing can easily beat judo? Just because they throw people down? I'm sure there's some style that counters judo. I don't know if it exists, but it's possible.

What is Glima? Some of these arts I'd never even heard of & as I said before, what is Sambo?

The art of judo is based upon the philosophy of Countering, using your opponents strength against them, and using minimum strength with maximum effiency ("sieryoku zen'yo").
    "ju" means gentle, peaceful.
"do" means the way or the path.
I see these philosophies combined with the athletic art create a true "art/technique" that can not be beaten. I see other arts with their philosophies that are well, but the art of judo creates a lifestyle with no comparison. I feel personally that the art of judo is THEE best. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont see any other art doing quite what judo is doing...

Judo is a technique based on countering. So how do you beat countering? Don't let them counter. An easy way to stop a counter technique is to simply force the first move from their side and counter it yourself.

But its hard to do that on someone who was built on countering and breaking others counters. An expert judoka is a judoka who can read the other opponent better than the opponent reads the judoka.

Yes, but a Judoka (is that right?) is based on using his skills in response to an opponents attack. If he is forced into the first move, it will be outside his general comfort zone.

no, I'm sory for any confusion, but Judoka are also trained in attack, its just that isn't the primary focus.
If we didn't know how to attack, then in competition both competitors would be just standing there, waiting for the other to make a move, but the other wouldn't because he'd be doing the same. Get it?
