When do you think KH takes place?
    Past, present, or Future?

I don't think the KH universe exists in any time frame relative to ours. It exists in its own present.

i know, i'm thinking though if it did "exsist" in our "dimension" what time period do you think it would be

That seems almost pointless to speculate about. I would guess the main Sora story would take place roughly in comparison to our present.

I don't really understand the question, but I picked present :p

This is probably the best answer given. Despite hypothetical nature of the question that's being asked, there is nearly no plausible manner in which to equate the Kingdom Hearts continuum to that of our known universe. There's just too much variation to lock the entirety of the KHVerse into a single chronological period that relates to anything within our own universe.vIf I had to give an answer based on the hypothetical situation though, I would have to say that KH takes place within multiple time periods relative to where we currently are in our existence.

Port Royal is based on Pirate of the Caribbean, which in itself is set within the 17th-18th Century time frame; Atlantica is probably set within that same general time period as well. Deep Jungle, based off of the Tarzan movie, is probably best slotted into the late 19th or early 20th century, considering the time period of the movie. Based on stylistic evidence, Beast's Castle is set in a world indicative of a plausibly Baroque period equivalent. The Pride Lands could pretty much take place anywhere within the span of our known history, though it's hard to slot it anywhere due to the lack of humans to base things off of. These are of course the easiest ones to relate to any specific known time periods.

But for the most part, there's a lot of inconsistency, or otherwise lacking evidence to support most of the worlds as existing in a period explicitly indicative of a time period we would be familiar with. Radiant Garden bears elements of a Medieval village, and the castle bears some similar qualities. But overall, there's no way to place it within such a period because the castle itself displays, in both games, technological wonders that would be most likely found in the 20th Century and beyond 21st (the computer in Ansem's study, the intricate lift systems and the mechanics of the underground passages). Destiny Islands might well be a place set within a 19th or 20th century time frame, as their style of dress can be nearly related to what kids wear in modern times, though we haven't actually seen enough of the world's technical capacities to determine much more; although I would imagine that they should probably have some level of technology, at least likened to something of the early or mid 20th Century.

In the long run, each world seems to take place within the realms of its own sub-reality, to the extent at least that time seems to pass by differently. Being disconnected in the manner that they are, they don't really share much in terms of history with one another either. So in the long run, it's reasonable to say that each world takes place within a time period all its own, and the KHVerse is in itself a smorgasbord of time periods.

You, my friend, are mistaken. Can i draw all of your guys's attention to the World That Never Was? Over by the big tower were you fight Riku in days, and Roxas in Kh2 Remix you see some broken junk to the side including, may I point out, a semi trailer. That and the fact that the whole world has fallen into the darkness, suggests that TWTNW is in fact what's left from our planet. Not a pretty sight is it? Thus this takes place in the future.

I guess that's why one of the worlds reachable is a Colonial British port in the 1700s. You're taking a very narrow take on the matter. Only looking at a single world amongst the many that made appearances in the Kingdom Hearts series can't speak for the entirety of the KHVerse. So there's a totaled semi-trailer in TWTNW? So TWTNW is a massive, post-apocalyptic world shrouded by darkness? Then that's enough evidence to point to TWTNW being a relative future setting. But the same can't be explicitly said about every world in the series, seeing as we are talking about this in relative stance to our own time period here on Earth. Like I said, if anything, the "relative time period" of Kingdom Hearts spans through past, present, and future, which is different depending on the world. Certainly one doesn't go from post-apocalypse NYCesque city to 1700s Colonial British port town and say "oh, these places are both in the future."

I think it depends on what world you're on. However looking at majority of worlds, I'd say past...

    Destiny Islands- Present
    Twilight Town- Present
    Radiant Garden- Past/Present
    Disney Castle/Disney Town- Present: exotic
    Traverse Town- Present
    Port Royal- Past
    Olympiada- Past
    Agrabah- Past
    Atlantica- Past
    Halloween Town- Past
    Pride Land- Past
    Land of Dragon- Past
    Steamboat Willie- Past
    Sleeping Beauty Castle- Past
    Jungle- Past
    Neverland- Past
    Deep Space- Future
    Paranoid- Future
    Wonderland- Past
    Monstro- Past

Though I must agree with Toph, it's quite hard to give an exact setting compared to our own settings.

Yeah, no. It's been confirmed that TWTNW itself is a type of Nobody. The world doesn't have a heart. It's an artificial world created by the Organization. Thus, Memory's Skyscraper, which acts as the world's memory in place of a heart, much as a Nobody's memory acts in place of their heart.

I'd say Destiny pretty much nailed it with her list. Although I'd almost dare to place Radiant Garden in either a present or twisted sort of future.

And this is how to not contribute to the debate.

Sorry for the late response, but I have to agree with Destiny, all worlds have different time periods.

Or the entire KHiverse itself exists outside of time all-together. though i doubt that this is the case, seeing as the characters age...Or it could be that there is time but there is no date, if you get what I mean.

Dude, don't post in threads older than a month. An apology beforehand doesn't make it right. Make a new thread if your comment is something you think will stimulate discussion.
