Steampunk RP

Its caught my attention that the Original RP section is pretty much near (or is) its death, mainly because of the inactivity (which I won't blame, we all have lives), and we have been mainly doing Canon RPs, such as Origins, Dominion of Everything, Project ZETA, Modern LoZ etc., so I decided to make a new RP for the Original RP section.

Its a steampunk themed RP set in the 19-20th century, and this has been an idea I have been working on for a while. The RP will first take place in a steampunk, underground world beneath the surface, filled with steampunk cyborgs and machines that love right beneath the noses of those who live on the earth. I don't want to spoil the plot of the RP, but lets just say... The cyborgs don't see eye to eye with the "normal" humans.

What do you think? Would you join it?

 

Your idea is definitely interesting, and I'm a huge fan of Steam Punk, so I'm in. I have also been noticing the decay of the Original RP section and I'd like to pitch in in order to revive it.

Is this idea open for shaping, or do you have a fairly rigid idea of the story parameters?

 

I have a basic idea, but I'm open to suggestions. Like I said its in its ,"beta", as you may put it, so I am open to any ideas or suggestions.

 

Okay, sounds good. Now, I know the OP was supposed to be mysterious with the whole "I don't want to spoil the plot of the RP" thing, but maybe it would be a good idea to give us a general overview of the events that you'd like to have. I'll venture a guess that the RP focuses on some sort of mechanical revolution, with the cyborgs attempting to take the surface world or at least put an end to their segregation?

Except that its a bit more different than your typical revolution. It won't be every cyborg agaist humanity.

 

Okay, I'm assuming you didn't elaborate on purpose (to keep some of the mystery in-tact), so we'll leave that for the moment.

So, as I understand, the surface-dwellers don't know about the cyborgs? How did the cyborgs come to be? Who built the underground structures they live in? Why did they separate from the surface-dwellers in the first place?

Sorry to bombard you with questions. I'm trying to find a place where I might be able to help with some world building.

 

Well they were created from those who either passed or by those whom willingly allowed themselves to become cyborgs.

All cyborgs were made by Proffesor Cain Able, who created the cyborgs to be better humans.

Proffesor Able designed a lab under the surface, to hide his creations, fearing that humanity would not be ready. Soon after his death, they began to quickly build their own city, located under the streets of New York currently, around 60-100 feet under ground, still creating more cyborgs

The cyborgs are scavengers, taking whatever the humans discard, be it cloths, scrap metal, wood, tools, they will take it and use it.

The ideal design in, "Undertown" is similar to a distopian... Steampunk like city, with steam, all kind of machines and furneces and whatnot.

The anatomy of cyborgs is similar to humans, such as how some can reproduce through sexual intercourse, while most of the time they construct to build, since not all of the cyborgs retain "proper" reproductive organs. They don't need to eat a lot as well, seeing how they are more mechanical than organic, they rely on steam power to stay alive, so water is a necessity, like humans need water as well.

Okay, so how long of a gap is there between the death of Professor Able and the events of the RP?

I like these descriptive elements, they help to paint a good picture of what you're going for.

Okay, so with this information, I'm assuming that the transformation to cyborg is an all-inclusive process; in other words, you don't just choose to have a mechanical eye or arm; the process of becoming a cyborg is intensive and leaves you fundamentally different. Are those assumptions correct?

Well, Cain was born 1847, and started this project in 1862, and his death was during the year 1887. The current date is the turn of the century, 1899, in December.

Yes, some cyborgs were originally built for the purpose of aiding man, such as some robots having enhanced legs, meaning that they would potentially loose their reproductive organs, or even their digestive organs, an if sme are taken, they have to remove them entirely. Sometimes, humans don't survive, in which Cain chose humans that would not be missed, those without family, orphans and such.

Some Cyborgs can enhance their parts, or even change them, and add to them. Like I said they are scavengers.

Nowadays, not all cyborgs can reproduce like humans, so they follow the same process, except only when a human strays off and accidentally finds their underground "kingdom". Only rule rule applies, Never go to the surface

 

Well... cyborgs wouldn't be possible today either, at least, not the full-body replacements you refer to; in fact, Steam Punk is all about anachronisms, so that isn't the issue. My problem with it is that... well, it's creepy. There's also the underlying feeling that the dead might not want to be cyborgs.

Are all of the people who are turned into cyborgs willing? Also, are the cyborgs all loyal to Professor Able?

Proffesor Cain wasn't wanting to force people. There will be a lot of notes and reports by him, as well as an autobiography that he wrote of himself. In it, it showed that he only chose test subjects who were willing.

While Cain was alive yes. However, after his death, some turned away from what he was trying to accomplish, and thus, a plot is born.

Ah, okay, it's all starting to come together. Nice story, I think there's a lot of room for a fun RP in there. I'm already brainstorming character possibilities... I'll be keeping an eye out for the OOC.
