Speed Racer

Speed Racer was one of the earliest animes to reach the US. Back in the '60s it was loved by many children. My father was one of them. After hearing the poor reviews on TV, my Dad decided to wait for it to come to the cheap theatres. This falls neatly into the action genre. This is another movie by Warner Bros.

Plot- 7/10 The plot is relatively simple. Or at least it should be simple. At times interesting facts are told so fast you can not comprehend them. The core of Speed Racer of course is racing cars.
They get into Speed's childhood. They explore the conflict between racers and sponsors. I believe the ratio of dialogue to racing is wrong. There should have been less talking and more racing.

Acting- 8/10 They hired some good actors. John Goodman did an excellant job as Pops. Susan Sarandon played Speed's mother. The character Sprital was annoying. The ape Chim-chim was funny.

Visual Effect- 5/10 The directors of the film also worked on The Matrix. After I learned that fact, everything I saw made sense. There was a ton of obvious CGI. My father noticed that even the sky was in primary blue. It was pretty yet a bit bizarre.

Audio- 8/10 It was ok. I have no complaints. It was a cheap theatre yet we could hear everything. The sound effects for the cars were accurate.

Overall, 28 out of 40 points. The number says it all. It was an ok movie. It was definately not The Godfather. My main problem with this movie was too much dialogue. My favorite character in the movie was Racer X because he didn't say anything. Besides, you have to be tough to drive a yellow car.
