Sad Moments

What moments actually got you all choked up?

FFIX: At the end, as you realize Vivi is actually dying. I loved Vivi and having his last words contrasted with all the good things that had since happened in the other character's was the closest a game has ever gotten me to tears.

FFV: Galuf's last battle. He was by far my favorite character, and seeing him stand up to X-Death to save Krille was really touching. And the fact that you actually have to fight it made it worse. The game puts you in control of his death, and it's almost as if you let him down and can't save him. I tried everything I could to actually keep him alive in that fight. It really makes you feel hopeless.

FFIV: When Palom and Porom petrify themselves. Not only are they awesome characters, but they're kids. And they sacrificed themselves to make sure that the rest of the party survived. I was just staring at my screen going thinkg "no" and feeling bad about it. It made me feel all small.

FFVI: When Celes is about to throw herself off the cliff.
When you learned that Kefka burnt down an entire village and left behind orphans.
    The dream sequence for Cyan.
When you learn about Locke & Setzer's loves that have passed away.

    It's a Grand Opera.

    FFV: Hydra's passing. Poor Faris.

FFVI: Everything Betty Boop mentioned above.

FFVII: Aerith's death, anytime later in the game someone mentions Aerith, and Cait Sith's "death."

FFVIII: Laguna visiting Raine's grave. Ellone telling Squall why she wanted to change the past (so that Laguna would get to see Raine and Raine's newborn baby before she died).

FFIX: The ending with Vivi talking about saying goodbye.

    FFX: The ending

That's all I can think of right now.

Galuf is one of my favorite characters in that game, but I have to say that I felt very little at his passing. The insanity of X-Death's killer moves, and the fact that at that point in the game, there's actually no way to survive any of his moves, made it almost comical for me.

Aerith's death left me with more of a feeling of hopelessness and sadness. If only there'd been blood, though. That was the one thing that kept it from being perfect.

FFV: Gilgamesh getting sent to the N-Zone by X-Death. I'm not sure if this is actually the end of him, but it still pissed me off much because he's a cool boss and a funny guy.

Though not my favourite game, FFX's ending really got to me. The fading of the Aeons, Yuna having to say goodbye to Tidus. Despite all of my inner hatred for Tidus ... that moment was immensely deep and sad. I am actually amazed that the game managed to do that to me, despite my aforementioned hatred. Thanks, in part, to Yuna's awesome character. Alas, what they did to her in FFX-2 destroyed all this, but that's another discussion entirely.

Of course, FFVII's death of Aeris. I've always found it emotional and sad, and equally, any mentions after the event, when the sad music would cut in, they would remember her, but not just her, but the hope that she had left them. So sad.

No other game has really made me as sad as those two game moments.

The ending of Crisis Core really cut me up. Zack telling Cloud that he is the only real proof that Zack ever existed. After everything Zack went through to get to midgar, he is killed an passes on the whole legacy of the buster sword to Cloud before he eventually dies T.T
