Is not, you proved me very wrong there and I admit defeat. But science should hold a higher class in people hearts than religion as it attempts to prove what they believe.

  2. Yes it should. While we have Creationist, we have the people who souly believe in technical analyzis. That's why we need to understand the difference between religious truth and literal truth.

So it would seem, that's what you believe...but consider the following:

The people who are pro-choice believe (in their hearts) that the pros of being able to choose to abort outweigh the cons of destroying a meager fetus (I'm generalizing...some pro-choice people believe abortion is wrong, but not up to us...but let's just pretend, for this exercise).

The others are pro-life, they believe in their hearts that murdering a poor innocent baby is so terrible that it cannot be condoned in any occasion (again, there are other options here, but let's pretend).

Who's right? This is an age-old question that pegs us, to the pro-choicer, the choice is obvious...but to the pro-lifer, the opposite choice is obvious!

It comes down to gut feelings. What one person considers important, another may not!

Personally, I'm a mathematician (or so I like to think) so I think proof is very important...I'm the example of a person who thinks science is correct, but I recognize that religion is no more foolish than science, in that when someone says God is an 'imaginary friend in the clouds' then I can point out an 'imaginary friend in the clouds' that scientists have. So I can totally relate to your style of thinking, I think proof is very very important (I mean heck, that's what critical thinking's all about!)

But is it the most important thing? This is where my heart and gut instincts come into play...I think it's a very bad thing to blindly accept things...but I think it's equally bad to reject unprovable ideas on that basis alone. To me, the afterlife and more 'eternal' ideas trump science.

I mean you may or may not believe in an afterlife Pulse, but I'm sure at least once in your life, if you haven't already you will, be afraid of death, or a loved one dying. At times of heartache such as a funeral, do you need to prove to yourself that the person is gone? At a time such as this science is no comfort (Excuse my tone, I really hope you never have such a sad occasion...I've had quite a few in my short time here ): ).

That is why religion holds a high place in many peoples' hearts.

EDIT: In mathematical terminology, science matters for a finite amount of time...but faith matters for an infinite amount of time (or at least, that's how it looks to believers).

EDIT: Sephiroth, can you go into some detail about religious vs. literal truth? I'm not quite sure what distinction you're looking for.

  5. I know this may be off topic, but how old are you Mike?

    A million. xD

I'd prefer not to disclose my age, and infact this is why I keep a blank profile (including avatar and signature). I'm not CREEPILY old, haha, but I'm a bit older than most people on this forum...I think a lot of people would be intimidated, and I already have a problem making friends on here.

Basically, I'm old enough to start a masters degree (which happens to be in Mathematics**).

    "Don't do it Mike, it's a trap!"

Still too high...but this is getting a bit spammy.

That's why I say that go with both. Like I've also said, science and religion don't have to conflict. Like evolution for an example, the theory doesn't go against religion, but people make such a big deal about it because there is that misconception about our ancestors being monkeys.

Honestly to me, it doesn't matter how old you are. But I'm guessing your older than TD?

I've actually been thinking about going to Med School. Sadly, I'm in Pre-Cal and I'm not as good at math as I was in 6th grade.

This is why I F'ing respect you Mike. Your really quite brilliant. I follow your logic in a sense that you seek more literal truth, and not the truth in such a thing as myth, or the logic of mysteries in afterlife, like me. I find both interesting, but search for more of the mystery truth instead, waiting to become a genius for College. ^_^

Your in College right? You talked about your exams before. I like to keep my age hidden mostly, but I've come to trust this site a little more.
Sephiroth , Mike's is smart. It doesn't matter about age unless your trying to figure out were someones coming from, but that isn't neccesary right now is it?

  14. You know Kairi Star is going to tell us about this, so yeah, we need to get back on task.

yes, I will get on this thread later and type up somethin good. Don't have time now, I'm in class!

  16. Well, for one, I think I might have said this. But what is the difference between Religious & Literal Truth?

  17. Mythril Roxas

Literal trurh is more bias to what you can see, and religous truth is more bias towards the "truth" you can't see. HAHA!!
This is one of those times that there is a middle ground truth, because we can use the "literal truth" as an example to known more about the "spiritual/religous truth" of things we can't see, but can try to understand.
Thats the difference in my opinion.
(I wonder if Mike'l come in here and disagree or add to what I said in a more educated way ^_^)

    Now, heres a big one.
Lets start this off with a statement: I BELIEVE CHRISTIANITY IS HYPOCRITICAL.
Thats what I'm gonna kinda "proove" here in this post.
First off, just plain and straight without much explanaition (and the "Athiest" group will agree here), CHRISTIANS ARE CLOSED MINDED.
How do I know this? I was a Christian, born and raised. But as you get older, you learn things. I studied, in Christ Light class at the age of 12, I read the Bible a few interesting thingz. It clouded my mind with confusion, and I started to lose trust in the Dear Savior we all know as JESUS.

    SIDE NOTE
Also, on a side note, people come on, is it really that hard to say YWH?(pronounced "Yah-Way")????????????!
Its the Hebrew way of Saying Jesus. Jesus is the Greek way of saying Joshua.
YWH (Yah-WAy) is short for YSHWH (pronounced Yah-shew-ah). PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE!!! Its not that hard!!! Instead we are following Greeks interpretation of his name!! This is important!!! Its the "name" of "God". Hello?!

Back to what I was saying, I started reading the little things, like when Jesus was asking:"My god, my god. Why have you forsaken me?" This is GOD! Why's he losing "faith" in himself now? It prooves "weakness". This is god we're talkin' about now right?

Also, in Genisis with the snake. When god condemned him, he said A LOT!!!! And the Christian "interpretation" basically skips it! They pick and choose, pick and choose, and they say they believe in "THE HOLY BIBLE"?
WTF? Over half of Christians haven't even read the whole thing! And half of them haven't touched a Bible in their life!! WHAT THE F!!!!!
    Hypocrosy!
Back to the snake in Genisis, heres what it says....(King James Version of the Bible):
    GENESIS CHAPTER 3: 14,15
    14. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

    15. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Now lets go back and highlight some moments here.
First off: upon thy belly shalt though go (in the New Version it says, "you will crawl on your belly all the days of your life").
So, a snake (as far as we know) already crawls on their belly. So, what did it do before that? Walk? Stoll? Fly? We might never know.....
But it DID do something before. it didn't always slither on its belly.
Second: "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed" (IN NEW VERSION IT SAYS OFFSPRING INSTEAD OF SEED).

Enmity means HATE. God will put enmity between Eve and the snake? Hate.....so they'll hate eachother. But what followz that is the key here people....
"between thy seed and her seed"
HaHa, whats it talking about? seed? in New Versionits says "offspring"? So God will put hate between the offspring of the snake and the offspring of the woman? Well, according to may religions, WE are the offspring of the woman.....but what about the snakes offspring? Is he talking about snakes? Or the race that could walk?? Maybe both?? But do humans really HATE snakes? some.....do to fear of poisoning, but we don't hate them like racists hate blacks? Or the people in the Middle East hate America? Or the Nazi's hated the Jews? Or how the France hate the British? So, was "god" talking about snakes? I don't think so. Put the pieces together peeps.
I can't spell everything out for everybody.
I'm runnin' outa time, so I'll continue this later.
Just remember, and especially in debates,
    KEEP AN OPEN MIND

  19. Watch It Bro. . .

I may not be the devout Christian-Catholic. But I will not have you speak Blasphemy about my Religion!!!. God put emnity between Eve and the snake beacause the snake was a direct symbol to Satan, the Anti-christ. . . .Never ever speak blasphemy on my religion in my freaking face man. . . .

Then GTFO the religion thread, thats the whole point of it, some believe in a religion others don't and a debate occurs.
