FFX and FFVII Linked?

Has anyone else put these two games together and realized that they could very easily be related?

FFX to me is the same world as FFVII but many years into the past. My Basis:

Shinra: Shinra of the Gullwings makes references to learning to harness the power of the planet into energy.

Pyreflies: Pyreflies are what emerge when people die. When the pyreflies are sent they enter the farplane, which could easily be the equivalent of returning to the planet and merging with the lifestream.

Spheres: Spheres are solidified pyreflies. This seems to me like materia, which is solidified mako from the lifestream.

Cetra: The legend of the ancients, or cetra, says that they were the origional inhabitants of the planet. Then Jenova came and "attacked and turned them into monsters". When people die in FFX, their pyreflies become monsters if they arent sent to the farplane. Jenova in this case would be Sin.

Jenova: Jenova looks a WHOLE lot like whom? Yunalesca. And we know that Yunalesca has a deeply rooted connection with Sin.

It's just a theory but it seems like its very possible. State your opinions please!

Theyt are some interesting theories, to be sure. But I think you're reading a bit too much into it. I'd put most of it down to coincidence. There are a lot of consitencies between the various FF stories. You could make the same argument of the lifestream for the Cycle of Souls in IX (though as FFIX was made as an homage to it's predecessors, that might actually be an intentional similarity).

There are more things about the stories that are significantly different. The geography is very different. Some of the key locations of FFX are absent in VII, namely the Farplane. No pyreflies are relased from dying enemies in FFVII.

And finally, two of your connections don't work. The Cetra can't simply be the inhabitants of Spira because they were bigger than that. There was more power and significance to the Cetra. And we know that that wasn't a myth either because of Ifalna and Aeris. The other is that of Jenova. In order to make the comparison here, Jenova would have to have been Sin, not Yunalesca. Jenova was a direct enemy of the Cetra, while Yunalesca was simply an obstacle, albeit a significant one.

So again, it's an interesting theory. And it's intirely possible that those were intended as homages to FFVII. But I don't think they're any more than that.

Actually the reason I bring this up is because i remember reading somehing about a connection before but can't recall any direct references except Final Fantasy VII Ultimania.

"The game's popularity and open-ended nature also led the director and writer to establish a plot-related connection between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, another popular Final Fantasy title." Direct quote from the FFVII Wikipedia article, under the section titled "Legacy."

well, thats wikipedia, so you can't trust that to a huge extent. I want a more credible source.

Sorry, then. That's all I could find on the subject.

No, I didn't mean that offensively, im just saying that before I 100% say its true I'm gonna find some more sources.

wow i must say that is an interesting theory, but id just say is a coincidence as well. but at least you had a well thought out theory hehe.

Im fairly sure that they are the same world.

I was playing my third time through crisis core and i realized that the beach that you beat cissnei on when your on the run from the shinra infantry is the beach where tidus first meets wakka

Besaid Beach? hmm, thats interesting. I was putting the geography issue to rest saying that in the time it could have taken to reach FFVII's time it was very possible the geography had shifted (happened to the earth.) How can you identify it as besaid?

    their called 'easter eggs'?
references to previous games are common in all final fantasies
and thats just the beach from costa de sol....
if they were connected in the way you suggest then the 'weapons' of the planet(ruby, diamond, ultima, omega, ect.) would have gone after sin
plus summons arent exactly..well their nothing close to being aeons

How do you figure that they are nothing close to aeons?

Plus maybe FFVII is in the future and FFX is in the past and the weapons were born out of a fear of another sin?

ANd it is the beach from costa de sol but it looks exactly the same.

I guess now that you think about it certain beaches are hard to tell from one another. Anyways i wouldnt be pushing this past the "easter egg" portion if i wasn't sure I had seen this somewhere before.

Because they aren't. Aeon's are the souls of individuals willing given up from their bodies and encased in statues, called upon by the summoners for their power. It's a rather special procedure, and it takes a summoner to be able to summon them. The Aeon's choose to come for those individuals. Not everyone can do it.

In FFVII, their just random materia, no different than any other materia. A person, ANY person, uses the materia, and the effect that materia has will happen. In this case, it just happens to be in the form of a summon.

I'd call that a rather big difference, wouldn't you?

well, aeons are still pyreflies, they still consist of pyreflies. When pyreflies solidify they turn into spheres, which (in my connections at least) are materia. Kind of a random connection but well, you know.

zenrot you were right in your thinking
my japanese tutor was showing me her copies of FFX ultimania and FFVII ultimania

in interviews with the creators..well I was flipped upside down when she read it =p

they take place in the same universe but different planets, and according to nojima it would happen roughly 1000 years after FFX

shinra of the al-bhed(in FFX international/last mission) was trying to use the remains of vegnagun to siphon energy from the planet, after space travel was possible for these people they finally finished the technology on another planet and created 'shin-ra'(id like to state that space-traved was not accomplished in shinras lifetime but generations later)
on top of this nojima says that pyreflies anf the lifestream are of the same substence, he refers to spiras world energy as mako energy

also in FFVII dirge of cerberus and ffvii advent children
the ship cid uses called shera uses ancient technology he doesnt know how it works but it doesnt run on mako, its machina @_@

now I cant help but see sin as a 'the strongest weapon' in FFX lol
she translated a lot to me but these are what stuck in my head sooyeah...
the original pepople of the planet of ff7 are the ancients, everyone else is descendant of the people of spira(al-bhed's especially)

it really gets my head stirring >.>
id like to state also that while they are in the same universe, the planets can still function differently in how they use their lifestream

    EDIT:
encased in statues right? maybe its condensed spiritual energy? primitive raw materia...who knows

the main difference is that the people of FFX are very spiritual and behave in a christian-church-hierarchy fasion
    high summoners, corrupt leaders, ect.
the ancients are the same, and prolly wouldnt have changed if the people of spira(mainly al-bhed people) didnt show up
    EDIT AGAIN:
I was reading online somewhere that it hints in bugenhagens universe simulator(ffvii) it actually shows spira...
    I also formed a pretty cool theory...THEORY
what if..jenova and sin are of the same species but different kinds..like different giant universal viruses eating and destroying lifestream around all the planets

    JOKE:
the next awesome sequel to ffvii
watch as sin gets ripped to pieces by cloud n friends >.>

AWESOME! cool, see im not crazy. So does that mean that the people of Gaia are in fact decendants of the Spiran people? Also about your theory, don't forget Sin was a summon CREATED by Yu Yevon, he wasn't born in conventional means, while Jenova is a living creature as far as we know.

    true
s'kinda weird how sephiroth is jenova...but thats so far off topic id have to make a new thread to discuss it >.>

I love how well they can meld stories togeather..

I think that every world in all of the Final Fantasy games are in the same universe, just different planets. By the way, what is the ultimania?

not all of them are, or else it would be too messy, one of the appeals of final fantasy are that they all have different plotlines, worlds, and characters
it just so happens to be their in a trend of linking and making sequels and compilations because everyone wants them

ultimanias are..like...superguides to the world and deep concepts of a final fantasy, along with random facts and all cannon information, lots of interviews also
you can find pre-translated versions through google by typing in 'insert FF title' ultimania but i much prefer translating and reading it myself =D
