Secret Boss Cannon?

With the exception of Chain of Memories, every Kingdom Hearts game has had optional bosses that are usually accessable during the end game, or after you've met certain requirements. The question here is whether or not these battles took place in Kingdom Hearts canon. I'll be posting my thoughts and opinions, but I want to hear yours as well. Let's start with...

    Kingdom Hearts/Final Mix

Kurt Zisa/Phantom - NOT canon. These bosses both seemed out of place, and the battles had little to no impact on anything going on in the game.

Ice Titan/Rock Titan - Canon, due to their inclusion in RE:Coded. Every enemy in RE:Coded, with a few exceptions that are explained in-game, comes from KH1, due to the game taking place within Jiminy's Journal. Jiminy wrote about Sora's fights with the Titans, so they must have happened.

Sephiroth - NOT canon. If this fight actually happened, you'd think there'd be some reference to it in KH2. Instead, KH2 Sora seems to have never seen Sephiroth before.

Unknown (Xemnas) - Canon, confirmed by KH2 during the scenes from Sora's memory near the beginning of the game. Easy enough.

    Kingdom Hearts 2/Final Mix +

Sephiroth - Definitely canon due to the fact that, unlike most other bosses on this list, there's an actual storyline reason for fighting him, however optional the fight itself may be.

Lingering Sentiment - Now, this one is tricky. Personally, I'd like to believe this one is canon, but there's no proof for or against it. Until KH3 comes out, the jury's out on this one.

Absent Silhouettes - NOT canon, most likely just to test your KH2 skills against the KH:COM Organization Members

Organization XIII Data Battles - NOT canon. These fights were almost definitely a pure skill test, as with the above. However, there's always the possibility that I'm totally wrong.

    Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

Dustflier - Does it matter? For some of you, yes, so here's my opinion. Yes, canon, since I see Roxas as someone who completes his missions fully. And to fully complete the mission that the Dustflier appears in, you have to defeat it. So, there.

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep/Final Mix

Vanitas's Lingering Spirit - One maybe and two nos. Ventus and Terra can't have possibly fought it, since it wouldn't have been formed until after Vanitas's death. Ventus's heart left his body upon Vanitas's death, and Terra was already being bodyjacked by Xehanort. Aqua, on the other hand, could have fought it after creating Castle Oblivion, before going to Radient Garden to fight Xehanort. This is a very narrow window of time, but it's the only possibility if you want to consider this boss canon.

Unknown - We get a grand total of 3 maybe's on this one. We still have no idea who this guy is, so it's a tough call. In addition, the fight could have taken place at almost anytime during any of the stories, so there's a possibility that all three of them fought him at different points in the storyline.

Any Mirage Arena Boss - NOT canon. In fact, I don't think the Mirage Arena itself is cannon either.

    Kingdom Hearts RE:Coded

Bugged Data Roxas - This one's mostly personal opinion. If you consider the extra system sectors to be canon, and believe that Data Sora completely debugged the journal, then yeah, canon. If you think the only canon system sectors are the ones encountered during the main story, or if you don't believe the journal was completely debugged, then no. Myself? The former.

If there are any bosses I left out, or if you have any questions about my reasoning, let me know.

  2. Sounds true enough though I believe Unknown in Kh Final mix isn't canon.

I'd think it wasn't cannon either, if it wasn't for the fact that the scene IS in Kingdom Hearts 2, even the US version. So, it's being cannon can't be denied. It's one of the few that's officially confirmed cannon.

i believe Mysterious Figure in BBS is definitaly cannon. his attacks are too strong and he's abilities are overpowered. he's the only Secret Boss I haven't beaten because i haven't beat Re: Coded

    It's spelled "Canon."

You forgot the Phantom. And I'd say Siza is canon, as Sora gains abilities from it.

  6. OH Totally remembered an extra boss! Terra-Xehanort in the secret saga thingy!

Unknown - Canon. He turns out to be Xemnas.
Sephiroth KH2 - Canon. I'm certain Cloud's subplot will be continued in KH3.
Lingering Sentiment - Canon. After beating BBS, it shows how he would be canon.
Mysterious Figure - Canon. Nomura has stated in an interview that all three characters fight him and that the fight is canonical. While that is subject to change *Nomura originally stated that Lingering Sentiment had no connection to Terra* until Nomura changes his mind it is canon.

Who are you talking about? The boss for Aqua's Final Chapter? That's not an extra boss.

Thanks for the correction. I just added Phantom to the Kurt Zisa part since I have the same reasons for both. As for Zisa being canon, saying that he's canon because Sora got abilities from the battle is the same as saying that Ventus or Terra vs. Vanitas's Lingering Spirit is canon because they got a Keyblade for winning the fight.

The ending of BBS shows how it COULD be canon, it doesn't confirm that the fight took place.

Nomura has only stated that the fight is "within canon," meaning that it's possible that it happened. However, still not confirmed 100%.
