Looking at Dissidia Characters in the future

You're more likely to see Yuna then you will Edea. Look at the characters they've revealed. Each one of them has more to do with the storyline than other characters.

Kain: Even though I've never played IV, I believe he's Cecil's second in command or something.

Tifa: Compared to the other characters in VII, Tifa has more connection to Cloud than anybody else, with the possible exceptions of Aerith and Zack. But if they included Aerith, then odds are Sephiroth would end up killing her. And I don't know about you, but I'd much rather not see a recreation of that scene. And Zack would probably be more of a carbon-copy to Cloud, making his character redundant.

Laguna: He's hinted (But never revealed) to be Squall's dad. He's also technically the second main character, Squall being the main character of the main story and Laguna being the main character of the second, parallel story. Even if Laguna wasn't picked to be in the game, Rinoa and Seifer would have more priority to be in the game than Edea.

Vaan: While he didn't quite have as much plot relevance compared to everybody else aside from Penelo, XII is told from his perspective. If anything, XII would be the exception to characters with relevance to plot, because I'd prefer Balthier to be in it, but the only characters that are truly important to the plot (Hero-wise) are Ashe and Basch.

To be completely honest, once Edea is freed from Ultimecia's control, she isn't an important character. Her sorceress powers go Rinoa, and she only goes to Esthar because she thought she still had her powers. Like I said above, Laguna, Rinoa, and Seifer all have more plot relevance than Edea does.

Also, I don't think they're necessarily going with a villain to oppose each hero. VII didn't really have any villain to oppose the heroes aside from Sephiroth. Let's be completely honest here. Hojo? He just went insane at the end, and wasn't really any character foil for the heroes. Rufus? He's not really a villain, at least not when compared to Sephiroth. To further go against the 1 villain for each hero thing, in VIII nobody really has anybody going against them except Squall. There was Seifer for a personal rivalry and Ultimecia for being the main villain. Hell, Adel was just some power-hungry monster who didn't have any real connection to any character. The only reason why Laguna went against her was because she took Elleone.

For the most part, I liked VIII's characters. It's not like Square would pick a character who wasn't all that important in the end (Edea, Fujin, Raijin). And I'd be okay with them picking Zell, Quistis, Irvine, or Selphie, even though they are all a bit of a stretch for true importance.

 

DX But don't you think that Edea should go in the game though. She made a lot of an impact in my opinion regardless of being controlled by Ultimecia. She started the Garden with Cid, took care of Ellone until she established the White Seed to hide her away while Edea is completely a puppet and destroyed her own home, we are looking at her as the protagonist/antagonist who made us thought that she was the real deal. I don't give a care for Adel. She is too manly for me anyways.

To me, Edea made just as much of an impact like Seifer. Plus, she took care of Squall and the others when they were still kids. Which side she would be on would be hard since she might just end up in the middle or they would just make her become possessed and put her on the side of Chaos.

As for her, I would laugh if they did put Aerith in there. it would be fun playing as her but would be fun having our heads chopped off at the end as her as we cry our hearts out hee hee hee. I HOPE WE SEE A REMIX VERSION OF THAT!

 

No. Actual storyline, Edea became useless after she was released from Ultimecia's control and gave her powers to Rinoa. Everything you said is all backstory. Seifer, Rinoa, and Laguna all have more of an impact on the immediate storyline than Edea did. Hell, even Zell, Quistis, Selphie, and Irvine all had more of an impact on the storyline than Edea did. So she raised them. How the hell will that do anything for Dissida's storyline? You do remember that nobody remembers Edea raising them until midway through VIII.

If they had Aerith, and you actually cried if they remade the scene, I will hunt you down and slap the tears out of you. Square will have done their stupidest idea yet if they recreate Sephiroth killing Aerith.

 

Actually, I still think that Edea would make more of an impact than what you said. Without Edea, then Seed would hardly exist at all and Squall and the others would have no one to watch over them. She is one of the reason why they still stand as they are now. This would become more of an impact for Squall in Dissidia.

Who knows? She might just end up passing her powers unto Terra as an alternate for Rinoa. She was the first person who knew of Ultimecia's existence in the first place and she knew a lot about sorceresses and Ultimecia wanting to achieve Time Compression. She also know Laguna since he was the one who wanted her to watch over Ellone while he is going to become the new mayor of Esthar. Maybe we would even see some more information of her history as a sorceress in Dissidia before the events of FFVIII. To me, I think that the pieces would fit real well. If not, we can always make her a secret character to play. None of us didn't cry about Gabranth and Shantotto being in the game so why should we cry about whether Edea should not be in the game along with some other characters? At least none of us didn't say Cait Sith.

 

And? What you're saying is that if SeeD was not created, there would be no possible way for the heroes to have defeated Ultimecia. The only function of SeeD in the game is to give you gil. And Edea having watched over them as children only gives the characters a small connection. Nothing the came couldn't have been without.

No. First off, who seriously cares? It really doesn't matter what Edea's past was. Second, the only game Dissida would go into true backstory with is with the original FF. There is absolutely no reason to go into the backstory of the other games. The reason why FFI is the game for them to give more backstories into is because FFI provides the foundation for Dissidia.

I'm certain I can find plenty of people crying about Shantotto. And I would much rather play as Cait Sith than I would Edea.

 

I have looked into this and saw that there were a debate as to whether Edea should be a part of Dissidia 012 or not. I am not the only one who agree with this but there are some others who think that Ultimecia would be ok. Even still, she can always be on the side of Cosmos since we have been shown that her real personality is kindness. Let us just stop here and just maybe create a thread on this.

Anyways, anyone think that Garnet would make her debut?

 

Ultimecia shouldn't even exist in FFVIII to begin with and Sorceress Adel was supposed to be the final boss but then something happened and they had to change some things around and had decided to throw in Sorceress Ultimecia. I bet that Sorceress Edea had something else planned but they was not able to even complete the rest of her sorcery limit breaks. If it wasn't for Ultimecia, Sorceress Adel or Sorceress Edea would have took away her place. Squall and the others could have still remembered her but they can't because of the G.F's. I don't know.

I am not upset at the two of you and there are some things that I agree but I still see some things that I find Edea to still be of use.

Damn. I wish that wasn't Ultimecia's costume. Simply because that isn't Ultimecia. It messes things up. But I do like Squall's new costume.

 

By the way, since the game is coming out in NA on April 4th, any ideas for when it comes out in Japan?

(I made a thread before saying when the game comes out. I say it is that date because I saw it listed in Gamestop)

Squall's new costume looks like Cloud's advent children outfit in my eyes

 

I was just on Gamefaqs, and they have some decent pictures for the game. One of them reveals Gabranth's third costume which is *Guess you lazy people*Basch*So take him off the list*

Also, here is the link. I provide you this for my own reason. On the second page, they've got somebody fighting who appears to be Kain. I want to know if anybody has any guesses on who that may be.
