KH-Vids have a music video contest. Perhaps we could start our own. I know a lot of people on the site who also have a youtube. This would also be a good way to bring interest for the site.

It be interesting to do(this and many other kind of competitions) I'd enter this(if I still had my old youtube account) you probably could easily organize this on your own is the digital showcase section.

I don't think we would need our own section just make a thread... And it sounds good.

I just posted this in the staff forum that we need a AMV contest per weekly or bi weekly. I'll look into monthly prizes like a copy of Birth by sleep. something cool.

Sounds like it'd be worth it to enter - it's a shame I have no experience in AMV making, I might have even thrown my name in that ring. Maybe a judge...?

    need to get video program...

i've made an AMV before, came out good and pretty popular too. just i lost acess to the program due to it being hit by a virus so i can't make vids. i really need to get another program again.

I might cast a set of judges. Whats your take on AMV's have you been to any real Competitions in real time and seen how they judge?

I have been a judge before, but not in terms of AMV's. I'm pretty a 'noob' in that area - I'd essentially have to brush up on what makes up a good AMV if I was selected for the position.

I was an art for both graphic and traditonal art, as well as a judge for written works on another forum. I'm afraid I don't have much experience other than that.

well i never entered any contests and i never judged any AMVs. i've been a judge in contests before though, just not any video ones.

but the contests i've seen being held; they usually go for a few things when it comes to judging AMVs and such:
    1. how well the video matches the timing of the music
    • how well the music itself goes with the video
    • how well the effects add to the videos presentation
    • how the flow of the AMV is

1 is self explainitory. does the amv slow down with the music and speed up as it does?

2 is more about the music than the video. for example you wouldn't like to here Caramelldansen to an AMV about some epic anime fight would you? probably not. do the lyrics and meaning of the song sync up in a significant way to the video? this is actually the hardest part of making an AMV is choosing the right song. too many nowadays just choose a song they like or think sounds cool but the truly good AMV makers pick songs that fit.

3 is the last thing to worry about actually. some of the best make do without any effects at all. like this guy in my subscriptions never uses a single effect on his videos other than putting his name in the bottom right corner. but when you do use effect, they can't just be 'oh that looks cool' they need to add into the video. a good example is one person did an AMV about a specific anime character. during the 'flashback' scenes he used he added a grain effect and a black&white color effect to great use.

4-if the AMV is trying to portray a story or something specific then the scenes not only have to match the music but they have to seem like they flow into each other. make everything seem like they belonged together in the first place rather than what they really are; clips from whatever media your using.

That sounds like a good idea on how to score it. Also I think we should try and get the video section of KHP booting up again. I am quite experienced with editing and if I had something more than Windows Movie Maker, I could create something better.

I'd suggest getting Sony Vegas Pro - from what I heard it's pretty much the best for video editing.
