oh, one of those things. yeah that's possible if you'll fully explain everything about it and gather some good support for it.

 

I think that people who actually want the activity to rise up again, should get their noses off from the RP section, as it's the most liveliest.

 

This has been brought up before in the past, and I've even thought of this idea, but I didn't look at the negative, the reason why it would be a bad thing is to have a chat room you need an already active forum. By adding a chat room for the forums, you're taking discussions that could be discussed in a thread to increase the actual FORUMS activity and moving it to a chat room. Plus as a chat room is connected to the site, it's actually not truly part of the site, it's sort of like adding a keychain thing on to your cell phone, it makes your phone look nicer and cooler but it actually doesn't help run your phone.

I love the idea of a RPG Inferno, I've asked about this in the past before too, and from what I remebered, many people liked the idea and stuff from staff and everything, there's just one itsy bitsy problem though with out it the whole thing goes crumbling down. No one knows how to set up a RPG Inferno and everything. Now if someone can, is super active and can prove they're active, know the rules and follow them, I'm sure then perhaps admins may take in concideration of it. Then again it takes a lot on a RPG Inferno team and admins to keep one up in running and it's just like the chat room, all an RPG Inferno is, is a fancy little key chain on your phone

That's why the idea was made, as I also believe this, but as the last time I checked with Kairu on people who want to do it, we didn't have that many yet, we had rather very little. Now I haven't checked with him recently due to being so crazy over the past few days and upcoming days, but I'm hoping, at least, that RPOTS can get started up this weekend.



Now for you additional ideas, there could be countless ideas. Creating a blog just for the forums, twitter, youtube, or whatever; there's a very long list of things that could be say added to the site to help somewhat, but truthfully none of it will help. What activity comes down to is the members currently on the site becoming active, all that extra stuff is to maybe influence members to join the site, but if you don't have currently active users to keep new members around, they're gone, they go adios.

So what it really comes down to for making the site more active is the members.(refer to the thread I made here in this forum shortly after I returned back in May) The members are what cause the site grow and flourish, meaning our current members; axel, noz, Shadow*91, and anyone else subscribed or reading this thread, need to become more active. This can be done easily, it's simple...

-Explore all forum categories: as noz already pointed out, the RP section is the "livelist" forum on the site. Explore outside of there, post reviews for movies, video games, etc. Post up a fanfic, story, poem, etc. Learn to make graphics, you may not have money for the big time photoshop but hey there are free things out there like gimp and I'm sure you can find a free download of photoshop somewhere on the internet. Take part in the debate, talk about current world news in general or whatever. There's so much you can do, and it's really quite simple actually, you just sort of have to be, open minded.

-Creating Topics/ Threads: Now this seems, it appears to be difficult for people, but quite honestly, it really isn't. just thinking about what you would talk to your friends about in a totally normal conversation, think about where that conversation would fit in here on the site and make a thread for it. There you go, you just created a new topic.

-Be a Descriptive Poster: Be ready to step into a conversation and add your point of view to it, make sure in your post you add lots and lots of details. When I'm helping RP'ers now and then and everything, I always tell you/ them, add lots of details to your post, it'll help the next person create a post in the RP, well guess what ladies and gents, it applies with every single thread. I can show evidence, I'm sure someone after me posting this post will reply quoting part of this post by doing that they're adding to the conversation, all because I have details in this post they can sort of build off of and reply to. It's like in a text message, im, PM, and VM's the minute you shorten everything to just a simple yeah I know what you mean, you can't continue it, it just sort of dies, that's what happens with threads, so be detailed.

-Applying yourself to forums extras- now axel, you mentioned about adding some things to the site like RPG inferno and a chat room, well we don't need them, we have so much already here on the site that no one takes into consideration of things. We have the arcade, social groups, vBExperience, and so much more. Very little people take notice of them. Poor aqua has been trying to enlist people for arcade tourtaments and the social groups are just sitting ducks as no one posts in them and stuff. Get active in those, I remebered when the arcade was so lively that all of us would try to beat each other's scores no matter how difficult it may prove but then we would tease around and acuse the high score person of cheating, we need to get back to doing that. Then the social groups, I remebered how much fun and stuff that took place with them. They were like threads that didn't add post counts or anything so you could go off topic often, I personally loved the social groups and was disappointed to see it not so much of social groups but dead groups.
~~~Social Groups: Now I'm adding a small note about the social groups, as I know the social group system is different for all of you(ok for me big time and stuff) and I saw part of maybe causing the death of social groups, but this new system is actually much better than the old system. Now you may be asking "How so, Dawn?" well did you know with the new system, you can actually go in and click on social group options and hitting on subscribe to social group, it'll appear in your user cp in a list of subscribed social groups and it's just like subscribed threads, you can watch for when someone posted in the social group(posts in this list though are going from oldest at the top newest at the bottom)

-New Recruits: Now I think some of you think activity is about bringing in new members, boy are you wrong then. Yes activity plays a part in bringing in new members, but that's not what activity is. As I explained already activity is current members being active and blah blah blah, you know this. Now the thing is with new members is they join the site for a few reasons, to discuss stuff, to look up stuff, to add to a thread/ topic, and etc. Usually after that they're gone, they go adios, however, you can give them a reason to stay. Now how? Being active and keeping them interested. It's like in school, you could be sitting through a chemistry class completely boring nothing going on and you're dying to get out of the class, but if there's experements, fun demonstrations, games, videoes, whatever, it keeps your interests up and you won't even mind not leaving class(at least that's how it is for me). Just apply that to the forums, keep things interesting for new members and they'll stick around.





Now that above is basically a complete run down for activity and everything. Now sure some things can be done to make the site more active like fun stuff like RPOTS, KHP Memeber of the Year, SOTW, RPOTW, etc, but for somethings like KHP Member of the Year, you don't need staff's approval to do, you can go and start it yourself. In fact let me tell you a fact, every year members look forward to KHP Member of the Year competition and that competition wasn't even made by a staff member nor do I even think it was communicated to by staff, a thread for it was just made for it in Spam City(now Member's Lounge) and it became a huge hit, so there you go.

 

I definately don't agree with chat rooms on the forums.

 

In addition to that (As I was probably the first person to bring up the idea of a chatroom), chatrooms increase the likelyhood of getting viruses or something. That's what I was told when I brought up the idea.

And as for that RPG Inferno thing, the problem with it besides setting it up is keeping people interested in it.

 

I'm too old and my bones are so fragile that I cannot pitch my activity higher on the site.

Nah, I'm just lazy, and I'm not that kinda guy who just suddenly get posting like maniac. I post when I see an interesting topic (since most of the active topics here are games or things like that), so I'm not usually even interested in much more than roleplays.

 

Maybe we should create a Facebook page! Then we will get more activity!

The reason why we haven't received any activity is because Square have only been making remakes and spin offs to the series since 2006. It is only natural to see this happening. Also, I have noticed that once a member signs up, he/she usually make 1-5 posts and then they leave. Maybe we should display to them, the great qualities about the forum; such as the roleplaying community and the kind tight knit Kingdom Hearts fan base (as opposing to KHInsider) but we need something to make us stand out and I think I have the solution. As I have noticed, there is not a source on Youtube for strong Kingdom Hearts content with news, music videos and gaming reviews. Perhaps we should try and see how it works out. I also think we should update the main site, which represents the community as a whole and in my honest opinion, it is not good enough. Have a look at KHUltimania and KHInsider; they have a very good style for their homepage and very organized. Also many of the links take you to an empty page on our site. This is a big turnoff. We also need to update the news regularly but the updater is too PICKY and he/she is not ONLINE for MOST OF THE TIME!!!

I say we appoint members of the community for updating news. I would sure help and I'll try to post atleast once a week.

 

Sorry to both. Great ideas but the RPG inferno has been asked before and always been a NO. it's not that fun to tell yah the truth.... And the chat room, doesn't increase posts, it decreases posts, so it's not a good idea. If we want to increase more posts in other sections, Roleplaying ppl needs to post in other places. We have a lot of people online a day just they only post in that area, take some time and post else where... Everybody is capable of doing something. Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully we can get this forums back.

I like both ideas. What some people don't seem to realize is that the chat room really doesn't take away from the discussion on the forums. Trust me, I know from experience. Even if you don't want it to be on the site precisely, someone should just set up an IRC room.

And the RPG Inferno, although I believe it needs to be purchased, can be restricted to members who reach x number of posts. That would definitely draw more people to posting legitimately if you raise the number to say, 25.

As for whoever said that a chat would lag the site, but then didn't talk about the RPG Inferno lagging the site, a chat doesn't take up nearly as much space as an Inferno.

Also, I agree with sorabrawl (except for the KHI shittalk =/). There should be some sort of news team. That's what I initially thought the Volunteers were going to be.

But that's one thing, there are people who are lazy and can't think of anything creative to create, it's even like that in the RP section. You rarely get very interesting RP's. I know for myself to develop a well thought out RP idea and stuff it takes me about 5 steps to do it(usually lasting about a week to do).

One thing though I think like I pointed out in my other post is posting the interesting threads not just with the typical stuff, for instances, we had a pretty decent Debate section(except for somethings that just sort of was... eh, what the?!, etc) and we had a pretty decent Traditional Showcase with original stories and not just fanfics like what we mostly have now. plus there's so much more with it.

Bad idea, quite honestly. If wanted bad enough, create a Facebook/Twitter/ Myspace page in the members lounge, after all the members lounge is sort of a place for members to escape away from the rest of the forums so something like posting a thread asking everyone's myspace/ facebook/ twitter/whatever should work there. As for a whole page forum thing, bad idea.

Yes the main site need fixed up, plus I personally think both the main site and forums should sort of get a bit of a new theme design. Currently it just sort of seems kind of... kiddish... it's ok, but let's face it compare to other site themes like KHI, KHExtreme, etc. They're design is just a little more advance and stuff. All ours is a picture of KHII FM+ picture and our logo is just sort of more so text and nothing really fancy. We look at KHI, there's is sort of an original while bringing in the KH theme of stuff(I'm talking about the main site, not the forums). Then there logo is fancier too. I think what should be happen is make this the first project for the new GFX Team is creating a new graphic theme set up for at least the main site, maybe one for the forums(with leaving this as an option down below to pick). Then something else about the main site, I know it makes it a little easier, but I for one don't like having to click on every individual article to open it up and read it, I personally think it should just be displayed like blog, journal entries, forums posts, etc. just all deisplayed there with maybe 50 updates per page, much like how KHI and many other KH sites have there's set up.

Yes the main site needs updated, it needs updated big time. I know I'd be willing to do it, like I've been doing it now here on the forums. Plus if the main site could actually be updated every single day the news I have found on the new stuff, we're actually ahead of KHI there for a while and some of the other kh sites, but then a day later they'd find the same information(and seems like KHI always finds out from members with no resources... eh I'm being paranoid) But yeah the main site needs updated every single day, with at least something KH related maybe some new video if no news is available, or even forums update to sort of get people reading the main site more interested in the forums. Also another thing is people who work on the main site should have an account on the forums, the ONLY person who updates the main site doesn't even have an account here on the forums, she's just a friend of TD.

No, we don't need the youtube thing. It's been tried before already, I think we need to focus just with the main site first then it would be cool if we could do something like GameTrailers, GameSpot, and some of those other big site things if we could do something like On the Spot that Game Spot does maybe just every Friday perhaps.

Mike what you know isn't going to work here, unlike KHI which has a chat room and can have one, KHP forums not even quite yet developed for a chat room. If we were to become a huge site like KHI then we could add the chat room keychain(refer to last post I made for the symbolism I used), until then, a chat room will only destory KHI even more.

Then for RPG Inferno, your idea with the posts sounds like a pretty decent idea, then again we need people who need to be able to work the program to make a RPG Inferno and if the site owner does need to pay for it, we can basically throw that idea out the door completely.

Then yes as I already approached the news team earlier in this post, yes volunteers do that(and whatever else the admin wants them to do) which as you could see ever since becoming a volunteer(except for that first week and this week due to busy life, but next week is clean and example of last week) I really ramped up the news updates. As of right now, I'm the only other volunteer with LDC who wasn't even truly announced as one but her name was blue and she's listed as one(and she doesn't quite do the whole update of following the games to do this anyways) as for the volunteer group, this is more of a staff thing, but it's not major update thing, the volunteer group should just be rid of and split it into the two parts it's suppose to do.... KHP Interns(doing what admin says, no powers, sees staff lounge, suppose to inform admin of stuff, get admins coffee whatever) and KHP News Team(updates the news here on the forums AND the main site). Plus to add about the KHP News Team thing, yes the main focus should be finding KH news, but sometimes it's not always available so finding something like some cool new KH video, joke, whatever should be fine to easily do; or updating guests about the forums of current stuff going on, like they could announce about RPOTS and stuff, then there's so much more. I think the main focus though for a KHP News Team is finding a translator. As it's easy to see foregn japanese kh sites with google translator toolbar thing, but as for pictures, magazines, that sort of thing, it's impossible, so finding a translator and even cooler, one that lives in Japan that gets all the gaming magazines and stuff would be great.

 

A chat room will be the death of this site. If people keep chatting then nothing will get done post wise. Sorry, but i think that rp thing would be the best plan.

 

It's not quite privately. Plus we have social groups that work sort of like that and hehe isn't even alive thanks to people who stopped posting there. Plus if it's to talk secretly from mods if that's what you're getting at... A.) in a chat room mods still see what's going on
B.) it's probably not a good thing that you're talking behind staff members backs and stuff

So I could see a chat room when we have... at least 20 members at a time and not... 5... and the minute everything site already has becomes active and used like the social groups and arcade.
