PLEASE stop this ridiculous rule about 'No reviving month old threads' or this forum will never be able to thrive.

Classing it as bumping and issuing a warning is ridiculous. I've been a member of many a forum over the years and this is the first one to feature such a rule.

So please stop being ridiculous. Its not going to kill anyone if a thread is revived, it just means that the forums will be more active and at the moment, this forum is pretty much dead.

    OK, rant over.

What sense does it make to bring back a old thread that's over a month old as opposed to starting off fresh. I don't see your reason nor the logic behind it.

Surely reviving an old thread would save time and seeing as there are already the foundations of a discussion there, what would you gain from starting a topic up again? It would just be the same discussion as the dead thread. If you revive a thread, you can carry on with the discussion that's already there.

Actually. Somebody close this thread. I give in. I admit defeat. Plus I just can't be bothered to argue about this anymore.

I Cannot deny that there is not truth to what you say. Because it does make sense however....Due to previous issues with spam and what have you we can't change that rule. Its quite unfortunate because i see your point why make a new one when its one of the same topic right there. But rules are rules and even i have to abide by them and i'd expect for you all to do the same.

OK. I've given in. I shall do my best to not revive old threads from now on (I don't really want to get another warning message from Kairu).

Its appreciated, and i do appreciate your concern on such a issue i had never really noticed it till you brought it to my attention. But don't worry if its a legitimate reason like a RP or what have you i personally can excuse it.

Hm. Rai? Is it possible to ask TradeDemon to change the rules around? I can understand from what Arny is talking about.

We could ask for a new mod to be appointed who checks revived threads for spam and closes them if 3 posts are spam.

Stating one advantage of changing the rules, doesnt automaticly mean the rules will be changed. There also other factors to consider, and as Rai clearly put, he'd rather not change it.

That sounds like a good idea. However what exactly decides spam? i mean sure if it's less than three sentences it's classified as spam. but some threads don't require three sentences in fact a couple on here only require four numbers and the forward slash symbol. it could be more of a hassle than it needs to be.

Well, for this site, I know that bumping threads taht people stopped talking in is called spam & this is also true for the KHInsider site too.

    Well...stating the obvious doesn't either...

It prevents people digging up old useless topics and posting in them. I could go through every "hi" thread and post a welcome in them.

In some topics I am sure some mods will let things slide but if it is a topic where the is no need for a post then a warning should be issued.

You can see why this rule is around, prevents forum posting where they like.

I know. Some posts can't be answered with three or more sentences and if they were, they'd just sound ridiculous. There should be a proper spam rule thread set up where spam is cut down to the basics (like unnecessary posting and one word answers).

Just an idea Overdose. Nothing more. We don't all believe that by suggesting something will make it happen instantly.

Thats also a difficult thing to change as that rule is there to make sure Roleplays are kept to a good standard, before this rule was put in place there were a lot of 3 word roleplay posts.

The 3 sentances is only in effect in the RP area anyway. Basically take your deffinition of spam, avoid spamming and you should be fine. If you get caught out for spamming then your deffinition is wrong.

DX Then comes the VET's. Yes, we can close down our threads, but we also can open up our threads too. If a thread that was closed down by a mod gets opened up by you & it's more than a month old & gets posted in it, the staff can put a limit on your VET privilages. This is one way why staff says no reviving thread unless you make a thread similar to the other one.

I think the key word there is 'useless'. Definitely the rule should apply to things like welcome or away threads. But I think for other threads there should be consideration for how long the thread has been dead and for the quality of the post that revived it. If someone posts "Yeah, I agree" in response to a post made a year ago, then that deserves a warning. If, however, someone has obviously put some thought into their response and it provokes others to respond, I don't see why it should be an issue to let the thread continue on. [/2 cents]
