So, anyone controversial people here? Maybe controversy is the wrong word

I know for one I am. I just like to talk about it with people. Controverial movies, music, anything, you name it. About government, war, humanity, sexuality, all sorts of stuff. I guess it's usually on my mind a lot, I like to question things a lot, I like to challenge.

Anyway, gimme your thoughts on this. Thought it would be cool to post and see what people think and maybe get the ball rolling

YouTube - Metallica - ...and Justice for All

Great song from a great album by my favourite band. It's from '88 and I can definitely say it's their last good album, so far, and I'm a die hard fan

Anyway, it's from the album of the same title, taken from the last four words of the american pledge of allegiance "...And Justice For All"

It's a very controversial and angry album, I reccomend it to anyone. Anyway, the lyrics are in the video description so go ahead, listen, read, and tell me what you think

Let's talk about why in the hell our generation is extremely dumb and lazy compared to our parents' generation.

Yeah, you said it. 99% of young people are just pathetic, and I hate being judged as one of "them", and I had to spend 5 years with the assholes. Ughh is it me or is it the more stupid people are without realising it, the more clever they think they are? The average young person is a spoiled brat who doesn't know the meaning of work or any sort, and sponges off mommy and daddy. And then when something "terrible' happens, spend their teenage years whining about how pointless life is and how they hate their parents. They take a lot for granted and don't really realise how selfish most of them are

I mean, I'm old fashioned, I always will be. I can even say back when I was growing up things were different, but I liked that. I know when my parents were growing up it was much different, and I totally agree with it. I mean what happened in the last 20 years or so, why did things get so hectic? It's because modernisation is turning people into morons, that's why

There's a complex among young people that they know everything, and they'll act almighty, but when it boils down to t he nitty gritty hard work, nah, they want none of it, suddenly life sucks.

They just need to wake up and smell the coffee, imo

That actually isn't what I meant.
I mean that our generation IS extremely stupid and have a serious lack in innovation compared to 20+ years ago. The fact is that we're over privileged because our parents wanted us to have the lives that they didn't. So, we end up sitting on a pile of glorious things and lack the motivation to do anything with our lives because we're so over saturated with all of this pessimistic bullshit about how we *can't* make a difference, when in reality we actually can.

It's just a matter of getting up off of our asses.

Exactly, which is why for example yknow those shows on TV where people get someone to come and put manners on their kids?

I mean, like, wtf, once you're gone too soft for your kids or they're pushing you around, you know somewhere down the line, something got really messed up

I think we all know what that is

People these days are more motivated by photoshopping pictures of themselves to attract people who'll never like them or faking appearances over the internet instead of trying to own businesses, or at least get decent jobs.

That reminds me of something my stepdad says. He's always saying how our generation is the first generation that isn't cooler than the previous generation.

Have you met some of my stepsiblings? You're describing them pretty well.

It's because the line between disipline and abuse got screwed up. People got into power, and started making laws about child abuse. And so those laws basically said that disiplining your children (such as spanking) is considered child abuse. And the sad fact is how wrong they are. I was spanked as a kid. And I strongly believe that I am a much better person because of the way I was raised.

Totally agree. Same here too, I mean there's a big big difference between child abuse and simply putting discipline on your kids. I mean cmon, people need to step up to the plate and realise how stupid they really are. If I ever have kids they're being raised how I was, and my parents were. The right way that is

A good ol' smack on the bum, nothing beats that.

Today it's lectures given by parents which do nothing. Children's minds will drift off and will pay no attention. A minor level of physical discipline added makes things better in my opinion. I made a "poll" at school regarding if you were spanked by parents. Kids that seemed responsible said yes while kids who were selfish brats were raised up with no physical discipline.
It says something obvious, even though saying bluntly with two kinds of kids.

Sometimes it's just plain Child Abuse. When I was still in school, I knew some people who were belted with belts, hit with sticks and beaten by parents as a form of discipline. This somehow made things worse, your kids are now abusive towards other people.

Huh. It's kind of funny that I was just talking about this in my philosophy class yesterday...

I agree with what's being said for the most part. I wouldn't use the same vocabulary, though :D

Some people argue that the reason our generation is the way it is...is because we (at least in America. Guess we get special treatment or something haha) think that we are intelligent and gifted/special, even when faced with test results that clearly indicate otherwise. Too cocky/over-confident with a lack of "skills" to 'justify' it, assuming that sentiments like that could be justified.

I personally think it has a lot to do with our school system, parents/society and the "children".

It really does depend on where you go, but for the most part I would say that in America school isn’t challenging. The students have the potential to excel…but without discipline it’s wasted. Then there is the issue of teachers assuming their students are too stupid to learn information, or that they are too lazy, and thus, students aren’t challenged. Of course there’s a lot more to the argument than that, but you get the basic point.

With parents and society, I would say that both have spoiled us almost to the point of rottenness. We are handed a lot of things and don’t have to work for them. I am still getting over the shock that most people in college have their parents paying for their car insurance, tuition, other random expenses…and I just don’t understand it. My parents charged me rent in high school (I disagree with this, btw. It’s ridiculous), and my peers are complaining because their parents aren’t sending them money so they can eat out (or whatever they do with that extra money that they ask their parents for instead of getting a job and earning it for themselves)?!

And then there’s us. No offense, but I think that we severely lack motivation. We have so much potential, but we squander it simply because we think we’re going to be smart and exploit “the system” for all its worth. We tend to have a “how little do I need to work to get a passing grade” kind of mentality. You can extrapolate on that….but the truth is, we are only hurting ourselves by always seeking and expecting instant gratification. You reap what you sow.

Not to stereotype—sorry. There are always the exceptions, obviously.

Shit, that's all you get. In my family, there is no such things as child abuse.

Well saying in general, physical discipline is good. I got more than that as a child unfortunately (crazy Asian family of mine >.<). But also elaborating a little that too much can also be bad.
