Quite recently, Autopsy (I think that's who it was), created a thread explaining roleplay battles. Using that as a springboard of sorts, I have decided to put together a tournament. The standard rules for roleplaying (no god moding, metagaming, and such), will be in effect for each tournament battle. For additional rules specific to battles, see Autopsy's thread. The tournament (assuming this sparks anyone's interest), will, logically, be split into rounds. With the end of each round's battles, one combatant will be judged as the winner, based on the roleplaying skill demonstrated by both people in battle. The winner of the battle will advance to the winners bracket next round. There will be a maximum of sixteen spots open, and a minimum of eight.

    So say we have this.

    Competitors:
    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
    Five
    Six
    Seven
    Eight

    Matches Round 1:
    One vs. Five
    Two vs. Three
    Eight vs. Six
    Seven vs. Four

Bold indicates the winners of the battles of the first round. Then, the next round would see the winners of the first round in their own bracket, as such:

    Five vs. Four
    Eight vs. Two

And the "losers" of round one as such:

    One vs. Six
    Three vs. Seven

Note that these are only examples, and will probably not be the actual match ups.

Characters used in battle may be either ones created for the sake of the tournament or taken from your lists of characters used in RPs. As the tournament is not one between characters, and it's good to show some diversity, you will be permitted to use a different character for each round in which you participate. However, if you wish to see a specific character of yours through the tournament, you may do so. Since each battle will be given its own separate thread, character profiles (or links to those profiles), are to be presented on the threads themselves.

Matches will be decided via a random sequence generator, found on random.org. You need not know how it works unless you are entrusted with determining the order for a round. Those that may be entrusted with determining the match ups will also be responsibly for setting up the settings for each battle, and assigning judges to the match. Judges will be pre-determined, and settings will be determined after both players have revealed their characters for the battle.

Judges are to be impartial in their decision on the winners of each battle, and must give a legitimate reason for their judgments. If a judge thinks that person A deserves to advance more than person B, then they should give reason as to what about person A's roleplaying makes them more deserving. There will be two judges assigned to each battle, and the combatants are, naturally, not permitted to judge their own battles (though if a combatant drops out of competition, either for the round, or the tournament, then they will not be advancing.

So, without further delay, the current roster of participants (I will be placing myself upon the list once another has joined.:

nah. while i like doing fight scenes in RPs i'd rather be in one with a story. its why i never joined the other thread.

and actually its better if the judges don't compete because they'll be an un-biased third party, nothing to gain or lose from it. i'll use your example up top for this.

say 4 wants to fight 5 and vice-versa. 4 becomes the judge of 5's battle. 4 will most likely give the win to five so they can fight in the next round. then 5 becomes the judge of 4's battle and does the same. though the original pairings and judges are picked by random, a situation like this is entirely possible. thats why the judges should be a third party with nothing to gain from thier decisions. they should be unbiased with no personal stake in the tourney.

That's a logical point there. In that case we'll need to find outside judges. My only issue with that is that the RP section here isn't as large as those on other sites (though most other sites I've been on are completely devoted to RPs), so it may be hard to find enough outsiders and tournament participants. But if enough people can be found to have at least two outside judges, then that would be good. If need be, I can withdraw from fighting to judge, and maybe offer a challenge to the winner of the tournament.
