Remember Super Mario 64, Spyro the Dragon, Pokemon Stadium, Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 1? They were difficult games.
Have you experienced a time when you ask yourself "Man, why are games getting easier now?"
Seriously, I've played Super Mario Galaxy and I was so bored. There was no challenge. Another example of this, is when I played Zelda: Ocarina of Time and I couldn't even get through the first part; the tree but I've completed Twilight Princess.
Kingdom Hearts 2 was much easier than Kingdom Hearts 1.
Spyro the Dragon was a difficult game but the same creators of that game, produced Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction was very easy and lasted 6 hours, in conjunction to 30 hours.

Is it me or ever since 2006, the games have been incredibly easy?

There are a few exceptions such as Okami and Tales of Symphonia 2 but most game franchises have usually become alot easier for me to complete and finish.

Yes, games are getting easier. but more and more games are getting fun, and better graphics. so I don't care how easy it is. Theres also like mini games now and that brings more fun also. :D

Yah games are getting easier now... I still play ancient Spyro XD... Spyro year of the Dragon was actually difficult, but then I got Spyro Enter the Dragonfly and it was far easier v.v... And it's true Kingdom Hearts was a lot more hard to beat then Kingdom Hearts II... So far I haven't really ran into a new game that was actually difficult to play... Well, FFXII was hard just because it took forever for your weapons to charge and this could cause you to die XD

Or perhaps people are getting more used to gaming and our skills are only improving?
Obviously we could test this by playing old games now and the current ones as well and then compare.

(To sorabrawl) You have mentioned playing Ocarina of Time, How long ago was the "When"
I remember first playing it (Ocarina Of Time) when I was 8 or 9, I found it Challenging but then I played it again a few years later when I was 15. I breezed through it and finished the game. Simple explanation, I'm getting better at games or maybe because I was dexterous with my tiny hands =P

But I can agree with you that SOME games from the past are harder than the ones of today. The Mana Series, Secret of Mana (from the SNES) is much more challenging than Sword of Mana (From the GBA).
But some games have also increased in challenge from the past to the future. I'll provide Mega Man Franchise as an example. Mega Man X5 I have on my hands, It provides it's challenge and all, I have died on it and what not. Then I play Mega Man Zero and found it real difficult.

And to answer your question, I can't really tell if games are getting more challenging or easier. There's a mix of both yes it is getting harder and this is getting ridiculously too easy.

I think that each year their trying new ideas just like kingdom hearts.as it was explained before by someone else...the first one is hard, the second one is easy but it has more stuff to do.and it also has the triangle pressing thing.so it may be easy, but it turns out more fun.

    it's quite like that..

even persona4 is much more easier that persona 3 cuz in 4 we could control our teammates' action which we can't do it in 3....

Games has gotten a lot easier, but it gets boring sometimes when you don't use your mind to think that much.

I ave to be in between yes & no. Why? It all depends on the game that you is playing. FFVIII, that was a fun game & having the enemies level up with you. Just think about it if they did that strategy in FFX, FFX-2, FFVII, & FFXII. You would be in a heated battle in no time. Crash Bandicoot is easy, but is hard if you want to get the gold relics in the time trial race (Or was it platinum? ... MY BAD! Platinum relics. Not gold.) Xenosaga is not easy to play either, but at least I get some real good fun from it. Racing games are real easy because all you have to do is race & shoot out bowling bombs & the likes. Star Ocean is real fun & can be easy too, but can be very difficult depending on the mode that you choose.

Not only video games can be either easy or difficult, there are rpg computer games like Fiesta, Perfect Word, & the likes that can be very difficult too level up because of the exp that you need to gain. To me, I think that the games that we choose to play depends on the game itself, but also how good of a video game player we are.

games are not getting easier in difficulty they are just becoming easier to play our generation is trained on video games so that gives us the skills to beat them and we grow with this skill which makes games seem easier (try going back and playing something you played as a kid) also with the improved graphics, gameplay, story and so forth it's easier to sit and watch what you did. [that and the fact that now in games when you die the game doesn't start up from the begining like older games]

  15. Ventus

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

that is not entirely true. I tried playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time (which I played 7 years ago) and I'm still stuck at the tree in the beginning.

yeah but that's just one example and also twilight princess was easy for me

  17. Burnin'-Axel

    Burnin'-Axel Flurry of Dancing Flames

it depends on the game but generally, yes, i feel many games are easier. Ocarina and Majora's Mask were both a bit harder than Twilight Princess. But Fire Emblem 11 (Radiant Dawn) is the hardest of it's series (and yes, it IS hard) It probably would depend on how much you've played and wat game it is.

  18. Kyuu

    Kyuu your worst nightmare.

Yes, in my opinion most of games are a lot easier nowadays.
The newest Ratchet & Clank, Kh2 etc.

  19. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

I say games aren't getting easier. Like Cloud said, we've been raised playing games so we get the gaming skills we need to beat new games.

and Sorabrawl I know where your coming from as well(can't beat adult Water Temple without a walkthrough :( ) but you should know, Ocarina of Time is the hardest Zelda to date and argueably one of the hardest games of all time.

Nowadays we find games easier because we've played something similar but that doesn't mean we won't find hard games out there. It took me 4 months to beat the final mission in Armored Core: for Answer and i've been playing that series since game 1.

In closing, games aren't easier, we're just accustomed to what's needed for games.

plus we've all learned to play on hard so playing on hard over and over just trains your mind and gets you used to it see the theory of tabula rasa
